Azriel
My eyes cracked open into small slits just as the first few rays of sunshine started peaking over the distant mountains. I got up and ignored the pain in my paws and the rest of my body from being curled up all night while asleep. Stretching out my body, I groaned as some of the stiff limbs popped even in wolf form. I walked out of the den, sniffing the crisp air, nothing was amiss so far but I knew I couldn't stay here long or the other's would find me and my freedom was lost. I was ready to move on and get the hell out of Wyoming. I relased my bladder that was about to burst and headed for the stream Lyra found yesterday. I named her, like most weres do to their beastly side although they where like natural wolves. I headed into the chilly water, even though it was the start of summer, the water from the stream came from the tops of the mountains that where snow covered still. I was washing my scent away for a moment, I would cross the stream again before I left. I emerged from the water and shook myself dry, just as the hunger in my stomach began. I trotted back to the den to eat as much meat as I could, before leaving. It would be my only meal for awhile, unless we could hunt down more pret. I would need to find a town soon but one that wasn't in this state, every town had an overseer. The overseer was a wolf, who reported to the Alpha. He or she would report my presence and I would be caught. Clearing my head, as I swallowed the last bit of meat I could without getting sick. I buried the remains and headed for the stream. I wadded in and swam through t he gentle water across to the other side. I shook the excess water from my coat and started my days journey to the northeast.I had been traveling since early morning, and with the sun high in the sky I knew it had to be around noon by now. I was getting tired from going over the tarrain of the land, I put off hunting, only stopping to take breaks and drink from any near by streams. Now I had no choice but to stop, my body was protesting the unusal work out and my stomach wouldn't stop sounding its need to be filled. Lyra was content to stay in the back of my concious for now till we started hunting. I laid now, trying to get some energy back before letting her take over and hunt. As I rested I closed my eyes, letting the sounds of the forest intensify, listening for any viable prey. Deer where scarce in this area, so small critters where the only one scurring around trying to find their own means of survival.
I listened well, pinpointing each location of the sounds made, my senses where double what others had told me, only two members of the pack communicated with me, even when they knew they'd be punished for it. Blaklyn and Ellion, both guardian wolves, who stood up for me and treated me as an equal got demoted to omega, like I was for their kindness. Not once did they complain or hate me for the cruelness of their Alpha. They still treated me the same, even if the previous rules still applied to them.
Lyra started nudging herself against my concious, not in a demanding way, just one showing she was being affectionate to her human counterpart and was ready to hunt. I slipped from the fore front of my mind, releasing full control to Lyra and for once since I had freedom, letting her loose on her own.
During this time, it was like I was sleeping or better yet sleep walking. Our bodies moved due to her instructions not mine, but my mind was asleep, which was like giving me much needed rest.
When I was nudged from the peaceful place in my mind, Lyra's concious was rubbing againt mine. She wanted to show me what she had accomplished while my concious rested. It was like watching a movie reel. Her memories from the day and her hunt playing back through my mind like they where my own. I smiled as I watched her first failed hunt, trying to catch a rabbit. I even let a giggle slip as I saw her dive head first after the critter only to get a mouthful of dirt when the rabbit scurried into its den. Lyra made a huffing sound and went to curl into the back of my concious. I contined to watch her hunt, letting me see how she had triumphted time and again with more rabbits and even two squirrals. As after all her hunts, she drank heavy from a stream she had found, filling our stomachs to the brink.
I pulled myself from our linked minds and went to rest under a tree near her hunting grounds from earlier. The sun was starting to set, with my concious rested, I was ready to travel again. Some would think although we shared a body, I would be tired after her hunting. It was quiet the opposite though, When I rode in the passenger seat of our minds, we shared energy and feelings, but when complete control was given by either side, we used our own energy. I wasn't a fool to think I wasn't using her energy too, being malnourished from the abuse of not eating regularly enough took a toll on my human form. If I was human, eating the raw meat would poison me, making me sick, even with a wolf residing in my body with me. In wolf form, we could digest the raw meat with no problem because Lyra was built to handle it in her diet.
I rised up from the ground ready to continue on, after looking over maps and territories from the Alpha's office, I was getting close to the state line of north of Wyoming. I wanted to continue more northeast and to the east. I wanted to get to the Canada or the eastern coastline, work for awhile, till I got enough money to get a passport and move across the ocean to london or somewhere across seas. A place peaceful and with a lush forest.
The sun has sunk down and the moon was rising high into the sky. Trekking her path across the sky, just as I was making the trek to freedom. I was coming upon a revine and I sat staring up at the Goddess who brought life to my kind, just as she made her other nocturnal children. I felt the tug of my soul as Lyra and I merged together. Once our bodies and mind settled together, we howled out our sorrow, the pain of the abuse we survived through and the happiness of having freedom. We let our song serinade the moon and gave up our prayers to the Goddess for safe travels and protection. With the glow of the moon lighting our path, Lyra settled down back in my concious and I continued on our journey to the northeast of the continant.
