Yuki was nervous. She was nervous because it was her last year as a Junior, next year she would be a senior and competing against a whole new set of competitors. She did her best to clear her mind as she stretched out, her music in her ears to block out the sound around her. For a reason unknown to her, she looked up, and her Sapphire eyes met those of a brighter, ice hue. He was watching her closely. This was his home rink, his home country, and he was definitely American. He'd shown up with a bag that was patterned in the stars and stripes, his outfit was red, white and blue, and his skates looked like Old Glory was shimmering on his feet. None of the skaters knew who he was, not even Yakov, who was still coaching in his elderly age.
The boy's name is Dominic May, and while Yuki was in her last year as a Junior, he was in his second as a Senior.
He was always a strong and elegant skater, but always full of energy. He'd been missing from the competitions for a while, though no one knew why. Yuki was the last of the Juniors, and Dom was the first of the Seniors. Yūri had encouraged Yuki to watch. When she finished her routine, a beautiful one that earned her top scores, she watched.
It was Dom's first competition back, and he had quite the show planned. He skates out in an all black outfit with a leather jacket on, shades and a hat like a police men. The song that came on shocked everyone, as almost no one used rock. It was one of his favorite songs, ACDC's Back in Black. The opening chords, he rocked his hip to, the lead joined, and he flung the hat into the crowd as he started skating, earning cheers from his local fans, and creating a small scuffle for the hat. As he skated past the judges he set his shades on the table, getting on with the energy part of the routine.
Back in black
I hit the sack
I've been too long I'm glad to be back
Yes, I'm let loose
From the noose
That's kept me hanging about
His motions were fluid and flowing, his high energy seeping into the crowd and getting them cheering. His first jump was a double Salchow, which was perfectly landed with ease, which set them cheering louder.
I've been looking at the sky
'Cause it's gettin' me high
Forget the hearse 'cause I never die
I got nine lives
Cat's eyes
Abusin' every one of them and running wild
It almost looked like he was dancing as he skated, motioning to his eyes as the lyrics played. Coming out of the hand motion was a double Axel that he landed and went straight into a fast spin, spinning all the way down to where he was almost on the floor, and then standing back up.
'Cause I'm back
Yes, I'm back
Well, I'm back
Yes, I'm back
Well, I'm back, back
Well, I'm back in black
Yes, I'm back in black
With this set he started skating backwards, including doing a backwards double toe loop, facing him forward again. He blew a quick kiss to his fans with a grin.
Back in the back
Of a Cadillac
Number one with a bullet, I'm a power pack
He showed off his strength, taking a 'strong man' pose as he skated sideways. He went into the second half barely winded, ready to show he had the stamina Yūri had been famous for, and Viktor's grace as well.
Yes, I'm in a bang
With a gang
They've got to catch me if they want me to hang
'Cause I'm back on the track
And I'm beatin' the flack
Nobody's gonna get me on another rap
So look at me now
I'm just makin' my play
Don't try to push your luck, just get out of my way
He acted like he was pushing someone out of his way and jumping into a double flip. He loved how his routine was going, and his confidence grew, his skating reflecting it.
'Cause I'm back
Yes, I'm back
Well, I'm back
Yes, I'm back
Well, I'm back, back
Well, I'm back in black
Yes, I'm back in black
He started skating a large figure eight, and by his second time around he was making tight turns, going into a spin, ending it with another flip, though this one is a triple.
Well, I'm back, yes I'm back
Well, I'm back, yes I'm back
Well, I'm back, back
Well I'm back in black
Yes I'm back in black
He was winding down his routine, ready for his flawless finish. His excitement and confidence continued to mount as he made his way through his performance.
Ho yeah
Oh yeah
Yes I am
Oh yeah, yeah oh yeah
Back in now
Well I'm back, I'm back
Back, (I'm back)
Back, (I'm back)
Back, (I'm back)
Back, (I'm back)
Back
Back in black
Yes I'm back in black
Out of the sightBut he was successful. He'd finished his routine flawlessly, and he happily skated back to the side, his coach meeting him at the door and congratulating him. He winked at Yuki as. He walked past, heading for where the scores are announced. His wink made Yuki flush and Viktor feel the need to be protective.
At the time for awards, Yuki took the gold for her age division, and so did the mystery boy, who's name she learned as he was called for the gold. Dominic May, the boy who'd caught her attention like a fly in a web.
