Sherlock and Watson walked into the station. Donovan looked up in surprise.
"I didn't know that the freak train got called." She called, putting down a file. "What is it this time?"
"Not something we need from you today Donovan." Sherlock said, and both he and John kept walking. Sherlock opened the door to Lestrade's office, causing it's occupant to look up in surprise.
"Sherlock! John! What are you doing here?" Lestrade exclaimed.
"We need a look at your files." Sherlock said expectantly. Lestrade's face fell.
"I knew it wasn't anything simple. Whose?" He asked while he stood up.
"Lucy Ferrier. Lucy, Lucy, Lucy..." John answered and began muttering to himself, then sighed. Lestrade looked at Sherlock confused, and then proceeded to speak.
"Well, any paper files are up in the back room, and I'll get a couple of people searching the databases if you'd like."
"I'll do the paper ones." John said, and walked out, leaving Sherlock and Lestrade alone in the same room. Lestrade poked his head out the door.
"Can you search for files on Lucy Ferrier?" He called to Donovan. She took one look at Sherlock, sighed then nodded.
"Right on it." Lestrade Looked back at Sherlock.
"Is John all right?" Sherlock turned to make sure that John had properly left before replying.
"He's upset with me. He met someone online, then in person a week ago. And then, after no contact at all, she suddenly appears again. I overhear a phone call and she said I knew who it was, and not to tell John. The problem is, she didn't say exactly who, but I think I know who it is. We look her up, and apparently 4 years ago she disappears into thin air. Now she's back. I want to know where she went."
"So, who was it on the phone?" Lestrade asked. Sherlock sighed.
"I'm not sure. That's what I am finding out." He was clearly annoyed.
"Bringing, you here, why?" Lestrade still didn't quite understand. Sherlock raised an eyebrow at him.
"You're a police station, are you not?!" Lestrade just nodded, suddenly very aware that he managed to piss off Sherlock again. "Therefore you have files, records, information on people. I want those records. So I'm here. Understand now?" Lestrade just nodded again. Thankfully for him, that's when John came back.
"Found it." John looked up from the file in his hand and saw Sherlock looking rather pissed at Lestrade. "Were you yelling at him again?"
"Yes!" Lestrade said before Sherlock could reply.
"It wasn't my fault he was being stupid." Sherlock muttered. John sighed.
"Well, here's the file you where looking for. Happy now?"
"Better." Sherlock took the file and sat down at Lestrade's desk. Lestrade frowned at that.
"That's my desk."
"I don't care." Sherlock opened the file.
"So I noticed." But Sherlock had stopped listening again. In front of him, he had the information about the case of the dead carer, and the newspaper article.
"I'm going to go see if Donovan found anything."Lestrade said to John, and left. Barely a minute later, Lestrade called back through the door.
"Sherlock, you might be interested in this too." Sherlock looked up, then made his way over to Donovan's desk, John following him. Open on Donovan's computer was a file about all the leads the police had in investigating where Lucy went after the death of Ida Moore, her previous carer. They were comments taken from anyone who could be considered a friend or someone who knew her relatively well. None of them knew where she went. A couple of them didn't even know she had disappeared. She hadn't left the country either, the officials would have been alerted if she had.
"Ooh, this is certainly getting more interesting by the minute!" Sherlock exclaimed once he'd finished reading the file. Donovan shot him a dirty look, but he was too busy pulling back and turning to look at John to notice. John stifled a yawn.
"John, I think it's time we headed home. Come on." Sherlock turned and left. John gave a look of mild surprise, waved goodbye to Lestrade and Donovan and followed Sherlock out of the building and into a cab home.
