I'm booking myself a one-way flight

2 days earlier:

"Mmmmm..." I hum to myself as I walk around my dressing room, preparing myself for the upcoming show. I still have around an hour, so my nerves are still okay. I'll call Lilly in a few. It's always nice to hear her voice just before I go on stage. She calms me down everytime.

Just as I am thinking this, my phone starts ringing. I answer excitedly, thinking it's her. But then: "Ayeeeee Shawnieboy! What's up buttercup?" She's practically screaming. "Liz! I'm good but..." "Great! So you know it's Lil's b-day Friday, right? Well," This time I interrupt her. "Of course I do! Liza Ray Thompson, are you questioning my boyfriend-skills?" "You wish, loser." We both start laughing.

"Well, I'm planning a super-secret-fantastic surprise party! And now you're invited too! Yay! I've already called Andrew. You better show up, Mendes!" She threatens, clearly enjoying this way too much. "Of course I will, Thompson! I wouldn't miss your super-secret-fantastic surprise party!" I say in a high voice, mocking her a little. "Yeah, and you better sing too!" "Ok, I will, but only because you asked so nicely." She laughs and starts explaining the rest of her plan. I have to pretend like I can't make it and then serenade her. "Have you got her present yet? What is it?" "I have, my dear, but I'm not telling you!" She starts whining. "Oh, please please please Shawnieboy! I won't tell a soul! Pleaseeee?" "Well, it's..." I pause "A secret!" Now it's my turn to laugh. "Gosh, you're so mean! But I got to go, Lilly will come home soon. Bye bye loseeeer!" "Bye bye Liz!" I laugh and then I hang up.

Our plane leaves tomorrow morning, so I still have enough time to pick up her present and get ready. After packing most of my stuff, I smile to myself a bit -I'm finally going to see her again!- and then my phone starts ringing again. This time, it really is Lilly.

"Hey baby, how are you?" I can't help but smile the second I hear her voice. "I'm ok, a bit nervous. How was your day?" "Good, I just came home...." She starts explaining everything that happened today and even though, normally I completely relax then, I feel myself get nervous. I can't tell her about the whole plan and I'm not very good at keeping things from her. "Babe, are you ok? You're so quiet?" she asks, sounding worried. "Uhm, well, love, there's something I need to tell you." "What's wrong?" God, I hate doing this. "I'm really sorry , but I'm afraid that I can't make it on time. There are problems with our plane tickets and stuff. Andrew is trying to fix it, but I'm so sorry... " I say, trying to sound as sad as possible. "Oh..."

At the sound of her sad voice, my heart breaks. "I'm so sorry!" "Shawn it's ok, it's not your fault. Don't worry. We'll celebrate when you get here." She says, acting happy but I know she' really dissapointed. "Of course we will! With loads of muffins and cake!" She laughs and I start to feel better too.

There's a knock on my door, telling me I have to get ready. "I have to go babe. I'll call you again tomorrow!" "Have a great show babe! Text me when you're finished, ok?" "Ok, I love you!" "I love you too! I'll see you soon!" She says and hangs up.

I'll see her sooner than she thinks!
