No matter how close you think someone is, you'll never be able to zero the distance. You can reduce it until you think you have erased it, but the fact you don't see it doesn't mean it's not there.

Dr. Seuss once said you know you're in love when you can't fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams.

Lydia couldn't fall asleep. She hadn't been able to for a while, actually. And it made her chuckle how Dr Seuss was so right and so wrong at the same time.

Because yes, reality was better than her dreams, but it was a nightmare too. A nightmare you have to scream yourself awake to find some peace... well, if that could be called peace.

Like a terminal, she was stuck with no possibility to get better. Or at least that was what she thought.

She didn't know yet. She didn't know that getting better is an art.
