Chapter 7
Today is my last day in America. Today I start my new life in London. As of right now I can say that everything is going as planned. We all got accepted into our choice college. I’m pretty sure it was magic because, well we aren’t the smartest group of girls you’ll ever meet so… yeah. But anyway, our awesome parents who are being very supportive gave us money so we could each buy a car for the start of our move. That way we won’t have to walk everywhere (Not that I would’ve walked anywhere because I’m that lazy) and we also don’t have to continuously waste money on getting a cab. With 10 months’ worth of savings, we were each able to contribute to the house we wanted. Also each of us have job interviews scheduled so we could each have a part time jobs.
“Krystal are you ready?” I asked her. She’s been sitting on the couch all morning just doing stuff on her phone. When I walk over to her she’s scrolling through her pictures on her phone, smiling. But her eyes were showing how she really felt. I knew she missed Hallie already, even though she was meeting us at the airport. All of us were going to miss her. She has always been a part of our group. It’s never going to be the same without her. All the fun we will have in London will never compare to the memories we have with Hallie. Never.
After everything was packed and ready to go, Krystal and I were off to the airport to meet the others. The entire drive was silent except for the low hum escaping from the radio. It takes us a whole hour before we finally pull into the parking lot of the airport. I climb out of the car, grab my bags and head towards the entrance. When we get inside all the girls are already waiting for us.
“Well look who finally decided to show up! It took you guys long enough!” Layla shouts at us. Krystal and I roll our eyes while we continue dragging our bags over to them.
“We would’ve have been here sooner but Krystal here absolutely loves to drive slower than a turtle so, yeah, it took us awhile.” I tell them. Krystal’s jaw dropped to the floor in disbelief.
“I was not driving that slow!” Krystal responds.
“Sure…” Briella says.
“What!? I’m sorry I’m not speed racer!” Krystal shouts.
Everyone burst into fit of laughter at her remark.
“We still have an hour until our flight has to leave so you might as well sit down” Layla tells us.
Everyone gathers the chairs around into a circle. We begin talking as a group about random things. We probably won’t remember half of this conversation in an estimated 2 days’ time. We talked about when we first met each other and our last high school memories. Our conversation lasted until it was finally time for us to board our plane.
As it was time for us to get ready to leave, we all started saying our good byes to Hallie. I could easily tell she was holding back tears as everyone said good bye. Especially since Krystal wasn’t even trying to hold her tears in anymore.
I grabbed my luggage and began walking over to baggage drop-off. I take one last look behind me and I see Hallie waving goodbye as we slowly leave her behind. She had a smile on her face and she gave me a thumbs up.
I’m so glad the last real life image I have of her is smiling and not crying.
But maybe it won’t be the last.
