Chapter Five

“What do you want, Rachael?” I asked.

I was most definitely NOT in the mood for this.

“Oh, just to tell you I was sorry about ditching you a couple years ago. I’ve been thinking about it a lot lately.”

Mhmm. Yeah right.

As the Greek say, there’s no such thing as a free lunch.

In other words, there’s no way that you would get an apology from Rachael Anderson.

Unless she wants something in return.

“Okay. Are we done here? I have an appointment at Miranda’s I just can’t be late to.”

Okay, so I lied.

I really don’t want to go to said appointment.

But anything will do as long as it gets me off the phone with Rachael Anderson.

“I just wanted to tell you to be careful of Ryan. He’s rude and always has an ulterior motive.”

Hmm. It sounds like she just described herself.

“That’s funny, considering that’s not what you said when you first met him. If I can recall, didn’t you date him?”

I mean what’s the point of teenage dating, anyway?

You hold hands at lunch and you get to go to a movie or to the mall together. With parental supervision.

Woo. Hoo.

“I did, but I know now that what I did to you was wrong. And I’m sorry.”

Yeah right.

“Okay. Are we done here?  Like I said, I have a song that’s not going to write itself,” I said, resisting the urge to hang up on her.

I can just see the Tabloid articles now.

Teenage wannabe Kylee Grandt hangs up on teen acting sensation, Rachael Anderson’

Wouldn’t THAT turn a few heads?

“Yeah. Just remember what I said, Kylee.”

Click.

Well at least that’s over.

And let me just say, I was not looking forward to going to my scheduled appointment with Ms. Hampton.

Miranda Hampton was the chairwoman of all things evil. The queen of all things mean.

And now I am surprised I didn’t see it before.

It’s no small wonder that Ryan Hawthorne is related to her.

So maybe he’s not as bad as I give him credit for. And to his credit, he did break up with Rachael.

But he’s the one that asked her out in the first place.

“Kylee, Honey, It’s almost time for you to go over to Miranda’s,” My mom says, walking into my room and buttoning the bottom button on her shirt.

“You look nice, Mom. Are you going to a promotion dinner tonight?” I ask.

“Kylee, child, do not try to change the subject. You are going to Miranda’s. You don’t know how much I want you to get that contract.”

“If you wanted me to be famous so bad, then why didn’t you give me the part?”

“It would have been considered bias if I gave you the lead. That’s why it’s so important you make a name for yourself.”
