Dinner.
It was the most awkward time of the day for Claire. Everyone around her talked and she felt like everyone was ignoring her. Dinner was one of the few times she even came out of her room. Out of the place she felt the most safe.It was the place where no one could hurt her like they did her mother. Claire was sensitive about going to certain places. The outdoors frightened her so much she refused to go outside. Claire's father gave up on school.Nothing made her happy though. Her father tried to make Genavieve do everything with her that he remebered her mother do. It wasn't the same though. It made Claire sick just by thinking about it.
"So Aaliyah how is scool going?" The witch asked. Claire didn't look when her voice rang out. Aaliyah was 17 so that means she is a Junior in Secondary School. Her sister was always good with grades. Clare knew she would be to, if she actually went to school.
"I have two major reports to do before next friday. It's going to be hard and I can't believe my English Teacher is pilling all this stuff on our shoulders. It should be marked as Child Abuse." Genavieve laughed. Claire didn't find it funny though, her fork picked at the green lettuce on her plate. She hated it when people made jokes about things like Animal and Child abuse. It was just so cruel and it was definatly not a laughing matter. Not to Claire anyway. Her mother was against it to. Aaliyah never would have said that. Well not while her mother was alive anyway.
"So Claire how have you been?" Claire could feel all eyes on her. Genavieve was only going to get silnce. And Claire knew that she knew that. There was no talking for a little bit. Aaliyah broke it after 5 minutes.
"I found that book I was looking for. I left it at Carrie's house. I have a huge fine at the library though." Aaliyah spoke with an exasperated voice. Books were one of Claires mother's favorite things. Claire rembered the times when her mother used to sit on the couch with Aaliyah and her on either side of her. She used to talk about how much books taught you. Aaliyah used to hate to read, in till here mother made her read a Romance novel. Aaliyah was never able to put it down
"It's like TV in your head!" She would exclaim. Claire was taught to read at a very young age. Her mother taught her. That's only one lesson Claire still holds from her mother.
"Claire, you have to eat." She looked up to meet her father's stern blue eyes. His vocie was demandin. He watched as Claire poked at her salad, but it was left untouched. Aaliyah was staring at Claire, hope hidden in her green eyes. But all Claire did was shake her head and poked a piece of chicken into his mouth and chewed slowly. Everyone went back to there coverstation after Mr. Clark's outburst.
After Claire finished half of her supper she pushed away from the table and silently left the room. She locked herself in the safty of her bedroom. She sat at her dressing table after slipping into her soft fleece night gown. Her mother's brush in hand she gently stroked out her carmel strands. HEr straight carmal hair came from her mother. Claire always was complimened on her hair. Truly it was her best asset. Her mothers eyes, however were green. Claire had her father's blue eyes. Mrs. Clark assured Claire that she had the prettiest blue eyes in the world, but Claire always wanted to look her mother, inside and out. So thats why Claire tried to learn as much as possible through her mother's diary. SHe red an entry every night. Her mother loved to write just as Claire did. She had 5 journals and a sixth one that hasn't been finsihed yet. Claire only finished on fully and she is starting on the sixth. The first one was written when she was Claire's age. It was written so well Claire had no problum reading her neat handwriting. Genavieve could never comepare to her mother. That was a fact Claire knew from the beggining. She didn't care what her father or sistedr thought. She knew the truth and the truth is what she believed.
The soft straight carmal hair Claire's mother had could never compare to the artifically died blonde hair Genavieve had. Genavieve had dark brown hair eyes that could never compare to Mrs. Clark's nice and humble green ones. Aaliyah seemed to forget all about that. She was lost in there fathers new girlfriend. Aaliyah was closer in age to Genavieve than her father was. That shoud be illegal, shouldn't it? You would think so.
Claire thinks back to the first time she met Genavieve. It was two weeks after her mother passed away. Her father went to a buisness meeting outside there home in Paris, France. Genavieve returned with him. That of course made Claire wonder if he actually went on a buisness trip. They claimed to be friends from High School, but Claire knew better than that. She was to smart to believe lies.
Aaliyah believed them though. She believed everything that was told. Every trace of Mrs. Clark was gone out of Aaliyah's attitude and personality. The only thing that reminded Claire that Aaliyah really is her sister is those green eyes that were identical to her mothers. Her hair, Aaliyah's beautiful carmal locks were died a horrid honey blonde that looked all wrong for her. Of course Genavieve picked the horrid color out.
Oh mum why did you have to go." Claire though as silent tears ran down her eyes
