Chapter 8- The key

I was sitting alone Micah on one side me on the other no light no others, how did we get here, I really couldn't figure it out maybe somewhere between the run or the shooting. I would have to recall events. It was lights out at exactly ten, no one stirred except the guards, and the people who kept us caged went home to a wonderland while we were stuck like animals. "Micah you have to come with me, "I said, again and again, reminding him of the plan we had coughed up almost three hours ago. " What if it doesn't work Alexia we could.. be killed". I thought about it for a second " Micah... I've died more times than I can count". I don't really think he understood what I said but I think he had died many more times than me.

I Wondered if Alex still felt the same way about me, I figured he didn't. He probably was happy with his new best friend. I didn't really understand the meaning of love, by my definition it was pure feelings but it was something else.

It would take attempts after attempts and we knew it. We could fail a hundred times and give up or fail a hundred times and succeed for one. " Hey, Alexia .. I know you wanna believe that we can make it out, that some way we can make it back .. but we cant were stuck here". I shifted the pillow under my head it was colder than usual and neither one of us could sleep, "I cant Micah I can't just stop and forget about my family, my real one not the one I had before I came here, I will find them".

The moon shined bright through the tiny bulletproof window, now since we had been " good kids " we were instructed to move up to level two. I grabbed the chair and quietly stood with my ear plastered to the door, waiting for the jangling sound of the heavy keys as the guards did their last nightly checks. He got to our door and I slouched down just enough where he couldn't see me the pillows in the bed provided a good distraction. He walked in and Micah looking sound asleep, I slipped out the door my heavy footsteps prevailing the hall.

I Walked until I spotted a tiny office, the hallways were dark almost unrecognizable I made sure not to have any shoes to have the lightest sound. And I wondered if Katie was watching over me now. It was dark so I couldn't see anything I felt around like a blind person until I felt something like a filing cabinet. I took the lighter that had been hidden in my suitcase, closed my eyes, bit my lip and burned the tip of my fingers. It burned bad and I wanted to yell but silence was the only thing to come. I couldn't leave a trace of anything it had to be like I was a ghost. My fingers slid across the drawers reading the words with my fingers until I felt 'key'. I opened the drawer and slid out the hope- the golden key, it was small like a baby's toy. Then the light flickered on and the darkness disappeared. I looked around anxiously but there was no one only a voice on the speakers. "One of our family has escaped, if you are to find them a reward of moval up a level shall be in place". I tucked my head in my shirt and tried to make a run for the room .. 4 more steps..3 more steps.. 1. My head instantly dropped they had him, held him with both arms behind his back, and a taser at his neck. I didn't realize the key had dropped out my hand. The tall man grabbed me by the shirt and dragged me and Micah both into the hall. A tall man appeared I recognized his voice it was the 'god' of the speaker.

" well well well" he paced around his black suit aligned perfectly with his body, the dark red curly hair sat up perfectly on his head. The leather shoes were reflected in his deep blue eyes, he smiled. " You two keep me busy, now, of course, I wanted to be home with my family but I can't do that now can I". He smirked, "blindfold them and take them down". My body struggled but it was weak the black blindfold was placed over me and Michas's head, and we were instructed to walk down the hallway as told. It was silent the building was sleep not even the wind stirred like it knew what was coming, only we didn't. We kept walking first left, then right, another two rights, stop and so on. We stopped the room sounded like a small lake was flowing through it serenely and beautiful. They untied us I looked around there were two separate rooms they both had a clear glass and connected with a wall in between, there was a small stream running at the bottom and two beds on either side of the rooms followed by a small hole labeled 'FOOD'.They shoved Micah into the first room and kept me apart, "to the next room" the same voice said.

They sat me in a chair, latched the armband around my arms and legs. The room was small black curtains surrounding it, the bands were so tight my hands and feet felt like they were falling off. The ceiling had a helmet thing attached to it I couldn't recognize what it was or yet what they were about to do. But I waited. It took about an hour for a woman to finally appear, she smiled as if nothing about the scene in front of her was real " hello darling my name is Eliana" she had on a white doctor like wardrobe and her hair was golden blonde and her eyes dark brown. " We will start in just a moment there are just a few questions I want to ask you, ok "? I nodded but I knew what my answer would be to every question. " Do you remember coming here"? No, I replied, " Do you remember your family, friends, loved ones"?, No I replied. "Do you remember Katie"? Of course, she was dead you all had killed her. Instead, No I replied. She wrote on her little notepad as if examining me, "good" she flipped the notebook closed. She started the machine and the helmet came down on my head, she attached the buttons and an invisible screen with graphs and numbers appeared in front of me. " This will only hurt for a second". I panicked a glass tube closed around me connecting at the bottom. it started filling with water, I banged on the glass but it was a fruitful attempt no one could hear. I was dead and they were drowning me.
