SAGES POV:

Everyone is selfish, impatient and a little insecure. We all make mistakes, get out of control and at times were all hard to handle. But if you can't handle someone at there worst, then you sure as hell don't deserve them at there best. That's what my mom always used to tell me before she died. That's what I have been telling myself everyday since. Its been 2 years, I am 19 and my dad is still convinced he is fine.

Everyday He tells me he's fine and he still goes to work with a fake smile plastered onto his face. He tells everyone else he's fine and has moved on, but I know he is lying to me. Ever since she passed away there's not a single picture of her hanging around the house unless your in my room, all of her clothing was donated to charity except for the ones I kept, any memories that are to painful for him to look at are tucked away somewhere.

He doesn't know it but I here him crying at night, he screams out her name in his sleep sometimes and it really frightens me and probably him to. He is just one of those people that holds everything in and makes it harder for anyone to get to unleash his feelings I guess I know where I get that trait from.

********

Today at work he greeted everyone saying 'hi welcome to Layla's surf shack' I think its the name of the surf shop that makes him look like he was just stabbed in the heart. My mothers name was Layla and I've tried many times to get him to change the name, but he doesn't listen. This surf shack was originally a gift to my mom from my dad.

********

Its about 2:55 and I get off work in five minutes.

"hey Sagey starting tomorrow we will have another employee working the same hours as you so I can get a few hours to myself before coming back into work." My father says trying to keep a smile on his face.

I was in the middle of hanging up the wet suits when I just stopped and looked at him.

"but- dad I don't need help. I'll be perfectly fine by myself if you wanna take a couple hours off everyday." I place my hand on his shoulder giving him a face that allows him to know this is what I would rather do than have another employee.

He gives me his dagger eyes, "No."

I take my hand off his shoulder and give him a puzzled look, "No?"

He turns and gives me a laugh coming from the back of his throat. "yes Sagey, I said no. I just don't feel your ready for that kind of responsibility yet.." he says trying to give me a sympathetic smile.

"But dad, I'm 19 I think I am more than capable of handling the shop when your not here."

he just looks at me and say. "Sage. that's my decision, and that's final."

"But dad!-"

"No buts Sage! its my decision and, my decision is final!" the way he raised his voice at me made me frightened to be near him. He is treating me very unfairly and like I'm still some little girl or something.

I give him an annoyed look with an eye roll then turn and walk to grab my wallet and keys then pivot to head straight for the door.

"Sagey- come on where are you going?"
