Last night was one of the hardest nights I've had since the passing of my dad. When I woke up just after 7, my heart still felt nothing but pain and heart break. I stayed up in my room until I heard my mother call me and my brother Max for dinner. " Andie, Max come down dinner is ready. I made your favorite chicken parmesan!" She said excitedly. I hesitantly walked downstairs hoping my face didn't give away what my heart and mind were feeling. As I made my way into the dining room I was greated by a smiling mom and an uninterested Max. "Honey what's wrong? You look like you have been crying!" I was caught. I knew mom's had this sixth sense but I couldn't really tell her what was wrong. " Mom quit worrying please. Nothing is wrong and I haven't been crying. I came home from school and went to bed. I just haven't felt so good today. " "Oh honey if your not feeling well you can always stay home tomorrow. I know how you hate missing school, but your health and well-being are most important." I had a chance to miss school tomorrow. As tempting as it sounded I knew it wasn't going to make my problem disappear. I would only see him again on Wednesday. "No mom honestly I'm fine. I just have a headache and an upset stomach. I'm sure it will pass before morning comes." She nodded her head and we went about eating dinner. Once I finished my salad and started on the delicious piece of juicy chicken my mom always cooks to perfection, it hit me again. The nausea. It over came me and if I didn't move fast there would be a garden salad mixed with half digested chicken parm all over the dinning room table. I quickly moved to the downstairs powder room and expelled all the contents of my stomach in the toilet. As I was flushing I heard my mother call from outside the door. " Andie, sweetheart I think you caught the bug some of the patients have at the center. It's going around, it is indeed flu season. I would feel better if you stayed home tomorrow. School will be there on Wednesday I promise." I quickly rinsed my mouth and opened the bathroom door. I was greeted by mom placing her hand over my sweaty forehead. Vomiting so violently really drained me. " I don't feel a fever dear, but I still think you need a day to rest." I agreed and slowly made my way back up to my room. Once in the comfortable silence of my bedroom I decided to change into my dark blue pajamas with half moons and stars. I placed my hair into a fish tail braid, brushed my teeth and laid in bed. Even though I just woke up an hour ago I couldn't help but feel so tired and drained. Suddenly a thought polluted my mind like the thick smoke that pours from the local candle factory in town. I still haven't had my period. I am never regular, but I'm at least three weeks late. The thought of being pregnant was enough to send me into an instant panic. What am I going to do if I'm pregnant?! I had plans of going to college next year. This is my senior year. I have homecoming, prom and I was going to try out for track next week. This is going to destroy my life, I'm only 17 years old for Christ sakes! Okay, okay don't get yourself all worked up Andie. You heard mom, the flu is going around. That's all this is a case of influenza. Missing my period is only due to stress. Suddenly Jason, Mr. Summers popped into my head. How will I tell the one man that hates me I'm having his child if I am indeed pregnant? He already told me he doesn't want to see me ever again. I'm just a child in his eyes, a huge mistake. Surely he will feel our child is just as much of a mistake. I couldn't help but notice all this thinking was causing my already pounding head to hurt much worse. I decided I would go to town tomorrow and pick up a pregnancy test. I had to be sure before I planned my next move. Tomorrow would be the moment of truth. I couldn't help but wonder if the results would be the one thing that changed my life forever.
