Skylars pov
"Ok class, finish questions 1-6 on page 127. Ill check it on Monday." The bell rang right after the teacher said that. Everyone started rushing to the door, as I stood towards the back, waiting for them all to leave as usual.
"Oh, Skylar, can I see you for a second?" Mrs Clay asked. I walked up to the desk shyly. "Yeah?" I asked softly. She gave me a smile, glancing at her computer. "I'd just like to let you know that you got a 98 on your test last week. Which is pretty amazing since this is a 11th grade class. Your doing very well." I gave her a small smile, then softly said 'thank you.' Then continued out the door.
I didn't stop by my locker, just walked through the halls and leaving through the side entrance. This was how it usually went. While everyone else said goodbye to their friends and joked around, I just wanted to get out of there as soon as possible so I could make sure my mom was doing ok. The breeze instantly made me shiver as I walked down the side walk.
But soon got stopped as I heard my name being called. Who could that be? I was practically invisible here, not that I cared.
I turned in the direction as my name got called once again. "Skylar!"
I smiled a little, seeing Vic parked across the street, waving me over. People glanced over at the scene, but I ignored them, jogging over to the car. Why would Vic be here? I know he said he would be back today, but I guess I just assumed that he would say that and show up like once a month, maybe even once a year. So I was really confused to see him right in front of my school, waiting for me.
I opened the passenger side, and sat inside. I looked at him confused. "Hey Vic." I started hesitantly. "What are you doing here?" I asked, putting on my seat belt.
"I told your mom I'd surprise you and pick you up. Maybe you want to go get some ice cream or something?" He asked, looking at me. I nodded, before pausing with a frown. "Yeah, but I should really go home to mom." I said.
After Vic left, it was pretty awkward between us, and honestly I felt a little bad. What if something were to happen to her, and I never told her how much I loved her? Even though I was mad that she lied, I knew that she thought it was for the best. And it's over now, I can't change what happened in the past. I'm just glad that Vic's here now.
"I just talked to her. The nurse is there, she said she was fine, and that we should bond a bit." He said, looking at me almost hopefully.
I let out a small sigh, finally agreeing. "Uh, yeah ok." He gave me a big smile , as I threw my back pack in the back seat of the car.
"Now tell me, what's the best ice cream place in San Fransisco?"
---
Vic took a bite of his mint ice cream. He apparently didn't like cones, so he had his put in a bowl. As for me, I got peanut butter chocolate in a chocolate dipped waffle cone. "Are you serious?" He asked. I nodded, letting out a small laugh. "Yeah, she's a horrible cook! For my 8th birthday, all I wanted was a chef so I could eat edible meals." I stated. He chuckled shaking his head. "It couldn't be that bad." He said, making me give him a dead panned look. "She started a fire making French fries." I started, but he interjected. "Grease is very flammable." He proclaimed. I glared at him a little. "I wasn't done. So after we had the fire going, we both started freaking out. We didn't have a fire extinguisher, so I thought that water would work" he grimaced a little. "The fire practically doubled its size, since it was a grease fire, it only made it worse. So after that, instead of helping or even calling the fire department, I ran and started throwing all the presents outside, convinced that the place was done for. It was only two days before Christmas." He started laughing at my childish antics. I snickered, remembering how mom was yelling for me to come help, and started batting the fire with the broom. "She caught the broom on fire trying to put it out, and that's when she wanted me to call the fire department. But then a neighbor knocked on the door to see the whole kitchen in flames. She didn't even look panicked, just grabbed salt and threw it. And it was out." I finished. Vic and I both laughed amongst ourselves, as I relieved one of the many scary yet hilarious stories of my childhood.
It was peacefully quiet for a second before Vic started asking questions. "But your childhood, it was...ok?" I quickly nodded, not wanting him to feel bad. "Yeah, she was a great mom." He tried giving me a smile, but frowned a bit. "When did she..." He paused, but I knew what he was getting at. "With AML? About a year now." I said, looking at the table with a frown, but tried changing the subject. A question that's been on my mind for the last day.
"So Vic, my mom told me that she didn't tell you about me because you were living your dream, so uh, what is that exactly?" I asked, wanting to know what could be so important to have him miss his own child's life.
"I'm a musician. I started a band, and we got really lucky, and have gone far with it. We're actually pretty famous." He said, looking at me straight in the eye to show me he wasn't lying. But didn't look away as it almost looked as if he was trying to figure out what my reaction would be.
I internally smiled, but kept my face simple. "That's," I started, pausing for a second to see that he was getting a little nervous. "So cool." I finished, seeing him instantly smile."You think?" I nodded my head quickly in confirmation. I hesitated a little then. "What's it like?" I asked in wonder. Even though I didn't really listen to music since we don't have a radio and I didn't own anything to buy it on, I always wondered what it would be like to be famous. To have people know your name, to be important to many people. To be heard by hundreds, and whenever they hear your name, to know that you have changed at least a small part of their life. Instead of being invisible.
"Amazing. Having people that you didn't even know existed, singing along with you. Having them enjoy something that you love doing too, it's  insane." He said, looking really happy. I smiled a little, seeing how much this affected him. Seeing that look on his face, true happiness in the matter, I could honestly say that I could understand why my mom would think that this was the best thing for him. Not that I completely agreed with the decision, but I could see where she was coming from.
"What's the bands name?" I asked curiously, wanting to know more. He finished his ice cream, throwing the paper bowl in the near by trash bin. I took a  bite of my cone, having the lightly melted ice cream make it a little soggy.
"Pierce the veil." He stated proudly. I muttered a small 'interesting.' Before finishing my cone, and wiping my hand on a napkin. "Are you close with the band members?" I asked, throwing my napkin away. He let out a small laugh, making me look at him in confusion. "The drummers my brother, we couldn't get any closer. And the other guys, even though not by blood, I see them as brothers." He said, making me smile brightly. "So I have a uncle?" I asked. I always wanted to have a aunt or uncle. They were practically the cool version of a mom or dad.
"Yeah, and the others will treat you like they are your uncle." He stated with a smile.
I started getting exited. I had a family. Not that I didn't before, I love my mom, but it was always just her and I. I only saw my grandparents a couple of times, and they passed a while ago. She didn't have siblings, so I didn't have aunts or uncles or cousins. So, now that I have a dad and uncles, imaging having a big family, I couldn't wait to meet them too.
"When can I meet them?" I asked, as we grabbed our jackets and started heading out. He opened the door for me, making me let out a 'thanks', as we walked over to the car.
"They wanted to know the same thing." He told me with a smile, unlocking the doors. I opened my side, sitting inside.
"So, they already know about me?" I asked with a smile. A part of me was surprised. Surprised that he wasn't, I don't know, embarrassed about me.
"I told them as soon as I got home." He said simply, starting the car. He looked in the rear view mirror, putting the car in gear, then pulling out. I couldn't keep the smile off of my face as we left the parking lot, then had a thought. "Are they...ok with it?" I asked, my voice going a bit lower as I started getting nervous. He glanced at me, before looking back at the road. "Of course, they are actually pretty exited. They want to meet you." He said, making my nerves go away.
As we started driving home, we made mindless comments, getting to know one another. Then we pulled into the apartment complex. "Are you going straight home?" I asked. I kind of wanted him to come inside so that he could spend time with mom and I.
"No, I can't do that drive tonight." He said with a small sigh. I crinkled my brows together. "Why? Where do you live?" I inquired.
"San Diego." He said, making me almost choke. "Oh my god, that's so far away. " I said with shock, making him chuckle. "It was worth it." He said with a shrug.
I paused for a second. "So, where are you staying tonight?" I asked. He shrugged, looking around. "I was going to find a close hotel. Stay in San Fransisco for a bit." He said.
I just nodded, kind of glad that he would be here for a couple of days.
I grabbed my back pack from the back seat. Then looked over to him. "Are you going to come in for a bit?" I asked.
He looked like he was thinking about it before agreeing. "Only if it's ok with Bella." He stated, undoing his seat belt. I nodded, already knowing that mom would want to see him.
We both walked up the steps, and in front of the door. I unlocked it, opening the door, letting us both in. I threw my backpack on the couch before going over to wash my hands. Vic followed my lead, and as we both finished putting our aprons on, we walked into moms room.
Her and Cheyenne were watching a random show, but looked over at us as we entered the room. "Hey mom." I said, walking over to her and giving her a kiss in the cheek. She smiled as I pulled back, before looking at Vic with mock disappointment. "What is that I smell? Ice cream? before dinner?" She asked, trying to fake seriousness. Vic froze for a second, buying into it.
"I uh, didn't know. I'm so-" He started, only to be cut off by both my moms and i's laughter.
He gave us a glare, but it went away as a smile broke threw. Only then did I remember. "I wanted Vic to stay for a while, is that ok?" I asked, making a large grin sweep across her face. "Yeah of course baby." She said.
I smiled a little, before deciding that I should do my homework. Even though it was the weekend, is rather have it be done before I forgot about it. Plus, I'm sure that they wanted time together.
With that, I told them my plan, and exited the room, feeling happier then I have been in a year.
