Chapter 1
asher
"Hey, Asher, look at what we got!" I heard Jackson yell to me, holding up a bag labeled fireworks.
He ran towards my porch with my two other friends, Garret and Blake, close in tow.
"I thought it'd be a great way to end the night," he told me. It was the last Thursday we would spend together until I would move to California, at the closing of summer. My dad had gotten a new job offer down there. I was upset to leave everyone in New York, but I was ready to start something new. It'd be a great way to spend my junior year.
We walked up to the deserted hill behind my house around midnight, the place my three friends and I had spent countless summer nights.
"Asher, would you like to do the honors of setting them off?" Garret asked me, handing the fireworks. I took them and brought a lighter out of my pocket.
"3...2...1," we all chorused together. Darkness then crept on me, followed by various loud noises...
I shrieked and sprung awoke. But this was normal for me. Each night was the same nightmare, brought into reality. I had moved to California 2 weeks ago, and at two weeks ago was the last time I saw light. Yes, once I set the fireworks off, I had gone blind. It has been utter hell ever since. I had gone and seen the doctor and he had told me I wouldn't be able to see for ten months, until May. I guess I should be fortunate for the temporary blindness, and that the incident wasn't entirely serious, but that doesn't matter. I don't want to be like this. I want to see my new school, the new place I've moved. I don't want to be made fun of for how I am. I've changed in two weeks. I find it hard to smile or laugh, everything is so dark to me, I mean obviously.
"Asher, honey are you up? It's your first day of school," my mother's meek voice sounded through my door.
"Yes, I am," I answered rather rudely. Everyone noticed how my once happy self was gone. They all acted like they were stepping on broken glass around me. I understand why. I'm a monster now. I don't know how ten months will go. I'm breaking with each day I have.

I dressed myself and walked downstairs for some breakfast before school. From what I asked my mom to lay out for me, I was wearing a plain black t-shirt and some dark colored jeans. It's a good thing I didn't do much to my dark brown hair before the incident, or else I would be a mess. Well, I gave you the hair, I'm tall and well-built with tannish skin. I'm all American, born and raised. Now for the last part. The part I hate most. My green and gray eyes. I've been complimented so much on them before, but they do nothing for me accept bring darkness to my everyday life. Everything is darkness now. Maybe it's payback for how I was before...
"Asher if you keep staring off like that, you won't make it to school."
I listened to my dad and hurried up with my food. Since I can't drive anymore, he would drive me. Once we got to school, I bid him goodbye assuring him I would be able to find myself to the office. I was able to find the hallway after a few stumbles. Right as I stepped foot into the hallway, I could feel all eyes on me. Sure, I'm blind, but I can definitely sense tension.
"Who is he?"
"Look, I think that's the new guy,"
"Someone told me he's blind!"
"Oh that must suck!"
This is all my ears could pick up as I struggled to find the office. I'm blind, not deaf, those idiots. I finally reached the office, at least I thought that's what it was. It was like trying to turn on a light in a dark room.
"Excuse me? Is this office?" I spoke out, trying to act somewhat polite.
"Oh yes! You must be the new student, Asher Scott! Here, let me help you over here," a cheery feminine voice sounded out, leading me to what I guessed was a desk.
"We are so excited for you to be attending our school. I hope you find the new town just wonderful. As of for getting the hang around school, you will have a guide until you feel comfortable with everything. She might have to help you until your sight recovers, but that is okay."
Oh, that's just perfect. A guide. To help me. Oh, and it's a girl! Yeah, just perfect. I turned around in frustration shaking my head when... whack!
"What the-"my angry voice was cut off by,
"Oh my gosh! I am so sorry! Ahhh, I didn't mean to do that!" a girl's voice cut me off.
"Yeah, whatever, just watch where you're going next time," I said getting up.
"Oh, here," the mysterious girl said, handing me my sunglasses I wore all the time. I quickly closed my eyes and grabbed them. I didn't want anyone to ever see the monster like feature on my face.
"I'm Tyler by the way, Tyler Crow." I was kind of shocked to hear her say her name. It sounded like a... boy's name. I'm guessing she put out her hand, but I ignored it anyways.
"Okay, well Tyler, please show Asher his way throughout the school. You both have the same schedule, so it shouldn't be too difficult. Thank you," the office lady told us.
Tyler grabbed my arm and lead me to what I think is the door.
"I'm sure you'll love it here. New schools are always weird at first, but I'll be happy to help all year," Tyler spoke. I liked her voice. It wasn't like that stupid office lady's high pitch. It was calm, not in the 'I give you pity because you're blind', but a reassuring voice. Wow, first ten minutes here and I turn all mushy. Stay focused Asher.
"Yeah, that's great. But I don't need a guide. I'm fully capable of finding my way around school," I told her harshly, yanking my arm out of her grip.
"Oh, really now?" she asked in a challenging voice.
"Yes," I answered, pulling on a door knob, "This is my first class."
"I'm glad you can locate the janitor's closet and all, but we need to head to our lockers first."

Teaching the Blind Boy to Love Again
Teen FictionTyler could be drop dead ugly and I don't even think that would change how I feel about her. It's like if everyone in this world would be blind, would we still pick others by their "looks", or would we be forced to love their personalities? Well, th...
