Chapter 19

I took Tyler’s hand and lead her into the ballroom. The air was filled with laughter and happiness.

“Wow,” I heard her breathe out.

“What?”

“It’s so stunning. Everyone’s dressed up in ball dresses and it’s all classic, and just wow.”

“Do you like it?”

“Of course I do, it’s amazing Asher.”

“Would you like to dance?” I laugh, bowing.

I hear her sweet laugh as she takes my hand, leading us to the dance floor.

“I-I don’t know how to dance,” I stuttered, probably having crimson cheeks right now.

“I don’t either,” she admitted.

I started breaking down into hysterics. After I calmed myself, I realized it was quiet.

“Why so quiet?”

“I’m not,” she stammered.

I wish I could see her brilliant smile.

“You are,” I mused.

“It’s just, I love seeing you laugh like that. You look so happy,” she whispered.

“That’s because I am, with you,” I whispered back, before taking the back of her neck and bringing her closer to catch her lips with mine.

“I remember how upset you were once you found out I was your guide,” she laughed after we pulled away.

I took her hand, attempting to dance. Good job Asher, taking your girlfriend who also can’t dance to a pissing ball.

“Yeah, I do too. But I’m glad you stuck with me Crow.”

“What can I say? A hot blind dude doesn’t get much better. Can wear sweatpants all day, and he still will be your boyfriend,” she joked.

“Even after the surgery, I wouldn’t care. Even if I haven’t seen you, I know you’re beautiful.”

In response, she leaned her head on my chest and sighed as we swayed to the music.

“What’s wrong?”

“Nothing, it’s just there’s only four more months.”

I could tell by the tone in her voice she was upset.

“Hey, how about we go to our table.”

“Okay,” she agreed, sounding distant.

Once seated, I looked to where Tyler was seated.

“Talk to me,” I urged her.

“I’m selfish. I know the surgery is the only way to help you see again, but I’m scared of it happening. I’m scared you’ll see me, for the way I see myself.”

“Tyler, I’m scared, too. I’m scared as hell. That it won’t work, you won’t wait for me, and stuff like that.”

“But that’s crazy Asher. You know that.”

“And you should know that what you’re saying is crazy, too. That shit we unfortunately call your father did this. It’s not fair. It’s not fair that I know you’re beautiful, just as how you act, and you don’t think you are. And that drives me insane. Knowing the girl I love, thinks so entirely low of herself. I love you, and every scar and imperfection with you. Without imperfections, we wouldn’t be perfect. It’s an unfair flaw,” I ranted.
