He was a good man.
He was loyal to his superiors.
He was loved. But something deep within him, something so deep, that even those who were closest to him didn't notice at first, changed.
He started making sloppy excuses as to why he wasn't in to work on time, why he was late home, why he suddenly became so monotone, so serious.
This happened more, and more, and more. Eventually, he was fired from his job at an anti-hacking corporation, working in a zero-emotion office. However, he still had income to pay his bills and to buy food.
It was so obvious what was happening; I don't know how I missed it.I remember once, it was stormy and there was rain forecasted for the next week. Dad's umbrella had gone walkabouts, so I used my pocket money to buy him an expensive red one. He used it all the time, even when it wasn't raining, for fun.
I never saw it again after he changed. He always had a compact, smooth black one, with a satin effect, with him at all times.
He'd somehow changed so much in such a snack amount of time, so much that I no longer recognised him as my dad, but rather,
the man under the black umbrella.
