My name is Dechlan Amery Bähner. I'm 13 years old and in 10th grade.
My mom, Armina, was 15 when she found out she was pregnant. My dad was high on marijuana and cocaine when drove himself off a bridge when he found out. My mom was abused and she didn't want her parents to know so she put me up for adoption. Three days later, she attempted suicide. Her brain was damaged and she forgot many things: her friends, her name, and her baby. She moved in next to me a few weeks ago. Her husband, Jerrick, was asking if anyone would be willing to stay with Armina while he was at work. I was the only one willing to stay so I spent afternoons after school to stay with her. On January 13, 2017, I showed her the picture of herself and I in the hospital that she sent in for her senior page. I finally found my birth mother. I'll know forever that she loves me, and I get to see her everyday. I'll have a baby half-sister in February.
In 2026 or maybe sooner, I'll be graduating from medical school and I'll be an occupational therapist or a birthing nurse.
