My eyebrow remained raised as I stared at the boy before me, trying to take in the words that had escaped his lips, "Huh?"
"Come to my cousins birthday party with me?" he said once again, and again I was not able to take in his words as he stood against the hallway's lockers.
"You're delusional if you think I'm going to be caught at a children's party," I scoffed walking away from the boy. He whined back to me once more dragging out every syllable in my name before catching up to my pace.
"I'll be the only one there, [Name]. I don't want to be swarmed around five year olds!" He pleaded holding open the school's exit for us. His expression was a bit desperate to his usual calm demeanor. "It'll be fun. They'll have a bounce castle," He added in.
My head jerked forward as a laugh spilled out from the back of my lungs. "Are you serious, Sasuke?" I laughed looking back to him. "You're convincing me to go with the fact that there will be a bounce castle?" The boy shrugged and flashed me a lopsided smile before looking towards the parking lot.
"Why not?" He shrugged. "Come on. It'll be fun."
"At a child's party? With you only?" I raised my brow again looking away for a second, "No way."
Sasuke sighed irritated and ran a hand through his onyx hair. He bit on his cheek and looked at the parking lot once more. "It's on Saturday. I'm begging you here [Name]."
My mind buzzed thinking of the endless homework I had for the weekend. Asuma had stacked me in over my head with Algebra 2 work, Kakashi with his response to literature essay, and last was a letter I had to write as if I was a World War One soldier to my family. I was in deep with homework. "Homework," I said taking in a breath. "If you agree to help me with my history work I'll consider it."
His dark orbs glanced one last time to the parking lot, this time growing wide when he spotted a red sports car. He looked to me once more and nodded vigorously. "Alright, just tell me tomorrow by two, " the boy quickly walked to the car and stepped in seeming as if he didn't want to be late to whatever he was to attend.
I nodded as the car pulled out of the lot and drove off before I decided to walk to the city bus.
The heels of my shoes clicked against the end of the chair as I bit onto the end of my pencil. My eyebrows knitted in frustration at the paper in front of me. The words seemed to purposely jumble together on their own. Rubbing my eyes I took off the glasses and looked to my clock to see it was twenty minutes until two. My hand reached towards my phone and I began to dial Sasuke's number into the pad.
"Hello?"
"Sasuke?" I asked into the phone scrunching my eyebrows as I heard mumbling and rumbling on the other end before a different voice answered.
"[Name]?" I nodded as if he could see me. "Sorry, that was Itachi," he mumbled out.
"I'll join you."
"Really? I'll help you with history aft-"
I spoke before he could finish his sentence. "Actually, are you any good at word problems?" Softly I prayed o the heavens hoping it would be a "yes".
"I'm okay."
"Help me with math then?"
"As long as you come, sure," He chuckled dryly to me before I heard more rumbling. "I'll pick you up in thirty?" He asked as if struggling.
"Are you okay?"
"Video games, Itachi's shoving me."
"Oh. Alright see you then," I hung up looking to my work satisfied that it actually may be done so I could have Sunday to myself. I walked myself to my drawers and scanned over my many shirts until my eyes landed on a certain shirt. I pulled it out and matched it with a pair of shorts and converse easily before sitting down again and beginning to try once again at the problems assigned.
Knock
"Sasuke's here, [Name]," said my mom looking at me from the doorway. "I didn't know you were going out today."
"It was a last minute thing," I answered pushing back my chair. "It was a small deal so he'll be helping me with math afterwards."
"Alright, be safe," she said stepping to the side as I walked out with my phone in hand. On my way down the hall, I spotted Sasuke staring at the tiled floor.
"Ready?" His head snapped and nodded towards me. He walked out in front of me after saying his goodbye to my mother. "Is Itachi coming?" I asked staring at the red car in my driveway.
"No, he has to go somewhere with my dad. My mom's already there though," said Sasuke stepping into the front seat and I into the back.
I raised my hand to Itachi and waved as he drove off, before Sasuke escorted me to the home's large back yard where a few tables stood and a bounce castle sat in the corner with many young souls bouncing inside with joy. "Do you want something to eat?" He asked walking into the house greating family members and children running his way.
I stood by his side and waited patiently as he spoke to his aunt and cousin before he turned back to me. "Sure.l The small smile he held when he spoke to his family didn't faulter as he nodded and went out of his way to bring me a plate of food and one for himself. We walked outside and watched kids run around in their party hats as we sat at an empty table and began eating our food. "Why'd you want me to come along. This isn't too bad," I asked him looking over my plastic cup as I sipped at my drink.
"No one's here to talk to me, duh," he chuckled as I spat back into the cup at his response.
"Sorry," I laughed harder pushing away my empty plate. "Who's birthday is it again?" He pointed a finger to a child far away wearing a plastic ninja head band.
"His name's Sou,"
"Sou! Come here sweetie," I yelled over the loud kids. The young boy wadddled over to me with a toothy grin. "Happy Birthday! Here's your gift," I smiled to the young child as I handed him a twenty dollar bill. A chuckle fell from my lips as his eyes bugged out and he thanked me numerous times before running into his home.
The Uchiha beside me smiled and shook his head. We began speaking mindlessly about school and our group of friends. Eventually, leading the conversation to the most ludacris things we have seen on the internet.
"You mean the girl dived into a pool of ice?" He laughed harder than he should have, "That's stupid."
I shrugged with a smile. "Drunks do stupid things," I giggled up to the now dark sky. We were the only ones outside, everyone else was inside enjoying cake and the warmth of the house as we sat in our chairs chatting away.
"Want to go in the castle?" Sasuke said nudging my elbow. "No one's around."
"Can I?" I asked childishly looking at the castle with longing and desire.
"Yeah, I've seen you eye balling the thing,"he chuckled standing up with me and following behind. We walked up to the inflated plastic and I began pulling my shoes off before wiggling myself into the small entrance. A grin widened on my lips as I looked back waiting to see Sasuke come in, but he didn't. My head cocked to the side while I walked to the net and looked for him, "Boo."
"You aren't getting in?" I asked over the slightly loud compressor.
"Nah," He shook his head as I took hold of the net and began bouncing.
"Well, you're missing out dork," I teased sticking my tongue out. I jumped towards the middle and was jumping in joy, once in a while doing a flip or simply falling on my behind to land on my feet again. Sasuke stood on the outside watching me jump through the net, looking down at his phone occasionally before he put it away and music started playing.
"Having fun in there?"
"Much," I replied bouncing back to the net after a while. "It was fun, especially the bounce castle," I admitted taking back my words from yesterday. "Thanks," I chuckled looking at him, completely stopping from jumping.
"No problem." His lips formed into a small smile as he looked at me, slowly the stars became brighter as he leaned in and kissed me through the net. My eyes fluttered shut as I received his lips with gratitude.
