Emilly Vanderbilt and Maximilliam Cooper were best friends. Friends since when they can remember. In reality, there were no moment in their memories where they were not friends. They met each other at kindergarten and since that moment they saw each other for the first time, they were inseparable. They wanted to do everything together and they did what they could to make their parents take them to play with each other. They even slept at each other houses. Something that Emilly's dad didn't liked, but it was pure innocence.
The years didn't weakened their friendship, but while they grew up they made new friends. They couldn't be all the time together, eventhough they wanted to. As they became teens they start to change, grow and to became shy to share some "secrets". In that cases they searched for other friends. Nevertheless, they were inseparable. It made all the school gossip that Em and Max were a couple. Not that they never felt anything different from friendship for each other, when they became teenager they discovered feelings that wasn't there before, but was that wise to ruin something strong like their many years friendship?
Max was perfect to Em. Em was perfect to Max. But both of them were too afraid to tell they had any feeling for each other that wasn't their friendship. Max had already dated many girls, but it never worked and he knew it was because he looked for Emilly in all of them and no one was like her. Em also dated some guys, not as much as Max, but she went out with some boys. However she felt something was missing, an empty place needed to be filled. And Emilly knew with what this emptiness needed to be filled.
There was a lot of things in Max that Emilly adored, like his wide smiles, that showed his adorable dimples. Sometimes, Emilly dared to touch them, and in the next minute she squeezed his cheeks. Sulky, Max moved her hands away from his cheeks. Emilly knew Max hated that, but it was hard for her to resist to his adorable dimples.
"I can fool everybody, but not me." Emilly knew the reason of her dates didn't work. There was only one Maximilliam Cooper in the world. For her despair, there was only that Max. The Max that she loved and couldn't take away from her heart. And knowing this turned everything worse, or, to be more clear, a big shit. It was what Emilly thought about love, despite being so young. She hoped the feelings for Max would would pass someday. When that feelings disappear completely she would be able to develop feelings for another person. Max was occupying a place in her heart and he needed to get out of there as soon as possible.
Max though, knew he would never find someone like Emilly Vanderbilt. She was unique. And the more he watched her, the more he knew she was made for him. Only Em comprehend what was in his mind and in his heart, she knew him better than anyone else, but he thought the only thing she couldn't know was about his feelings for her.
Max felt he didn't deserve Emilly. That's why he continued to date other girls, he couldn't loose his Emilly and what he had together. And all he felt able to do was to be her friend and admire silently and in secret her delicacy, visible in her short height and in her big gracious and long curly hair that covered her back. He didn't want to take her away from his heart, never. But he put a rule for him and it was that he could never have her.
