I took my bike and then took the root closest to the woods then stopped at James's house. I saw James in the window. He smiled at me then rushed out to get his bike.
"Beat you there!" He shouted. We rode in the cold to the woods then we put our bikes down.
"I won!" I teased. He elbowed me, I laughed. I'm sorry dear reader but this is what the James and Kate relationship is like. Sometimes I wonder what it will be like if we got married. Would we still act like two young lovers fooling around all the time?
"So," He said. After a while. "How is your life?" I looked at him he smiled.
"Restricted." I replied. He looked at me confused.
"Would you mind explaining?" He asked. James was always polite, though I had already explained snippets of my complaints to him. He was not quick to judge like I sometimes was, and he never said anything rude like, "Your sweatshirt looks awful." he always complimented me. He was indeed the best boyfriend out there.
"Well my Mom never lets me outside unless it is a trip to the woods. She said that many dangerous things could happen like people kidnapping me or getting hit by a car. She also says never to go out past sunset. This morning she even asked me to wear a hoodie over my head!" We both laughed. "I wish I could fast-forward my life to about three years from now. We both would probably would already be married and maybe already have a baby." He smiled at the thought of "getting married". "It's true we will get married Unless I find someone as sweet as you which will probably never happen"I said patting him on the back.
We walked through the woods. "Look he said picking up his camera. a deer was walking. He started filming. As he was filming a bear approached. Oh dang we just happened to come across one of three grizzly bears in these woods. How much better could my life get ey? I was going to move, but I found myself frozen in my tracks. Great just like the books, when you need to do something in life you just always end up doing nothing.
A second later the better leaped at me. I screamed. I could have sworn the bear went through me. I pinched myself. No I was definitely real. Maybe it was the bear. Oh well the bear or not the bear I need to get out of here. The bear started groaning. James turned, then shouted "Run!".
Thanks James for stating the obvious. The bear was close behind as we ran. We saw a big bush and went behind it. Thank goodness for bushes. I thought. The bear looked around. He quickly got distracted and went to a bush and ate berries. James and I silently creeped out of the woods. When we got out we were breathless. When he regained his breath he said, "That was close."
"Tell me about it."
I rode home. How did the bear go through me? Was it just my imagination? Or did the bear come so close to me I thought it was going through me? When I got home Mom was washing the dishes. "Hello sweetheart, how was the walk?" I was going to tell her about the bear but I did not. I knew that she was also going to restrict me from the woods, so I kept silent.
"Good" she smiled.
"Mary and Caleb will be leaving tonight so I think you better spend some time with them." I looked at her then nodded.
"Okay." I went upstairs to find Mary listening to her Ipod and and Caleb writing in his journal, he is a writer. "Hi" Mary quickly put her Ipod down.
"Hey." she made a face to Caleb. Caleb put all his things down.
"So, do you need anything?" he asked.
"Mom said we should spend some time together. Any ideas on what to do?" Mary and Caleb looked at each other. Then Mary's face brightened. "Why don't we all go down to the creek. Maybe we could try to catch some fish." There was no other ideas so we all agreed.
"I don't remember the last time we all did anything together" I said. They nodded.
"Look!" Caleb said holding up his net. There was an orange fish wiggling in the net.
"Wow!" I exclaimed. We never really were successful at catching fish I have to admit. Even after all those years out in the wilderness.
When we got bored of finding things we started jumping the rocks. I may of been very childish but we did it anyway. Then it hit me, why did we need to do something together? Wait stupid question, why am I questioning things way too much. Then again, there could be someone moving far away and no one told me. When when the rocks got fewer and fewer we stopped. I broke the silence
"Anything going on with your jobs?" They both shook their heads. "Are you guys okay? You seem to be a little distant? "Anything you want to tell me would about?" They looked at each other.
"No." I wanted to yell, I wanted to scream at them but then I figured that they were going through some rough times so I kept quiet. We walked on.
"So how's James?" Mary asked.
"We went on a walk today." I replied.
"Did he get to film anything." She asked. "He tried to film some deer but," I paused should I tell? No, they would just tell Mom. "The deer ran away." She nodded, I knew my answer wasn't convincing enough. But as the kind sister that she is, she didn't bother to question.
"How is your family?" I asked.
"Well, Adom found a job at the construction site." Adom was Mary's husband. "That's good" I replied. "How's yours Caleb?" He looked up. "Sarah is taking good of May." Sarah was Caleb's wife and May was his daughter. "Great." We finally finished up.
