Elliot's POV
Elliot shut the door behind him as he plopped the last box down on the floor, kicking up dust. The wood under his feet creaked and moaned as he moved. "That wasn't in the brochure," Elliot bantered to himself, looking to the empty staircase and room, half expecting applause and laughter.
Elliot was lonely. His ex had just dumped him, calling him a "schizophrenic lunatic" as she had run away from him, Elliot shooting his rifle at her head, behind her in the doorway. He wouldn't have missed if he hadn't been crying.
He sighed and started up the stairs. The hallway was empty like his mind and as dead as his heart.
Elliot was beginning to hear voices calling him from the right. He had been skipping his medication for a week now. Without his parents reminder, he had forgotten... Well, he hadn't forgotten. He was tired of being controlled by medicine all the time. He would let the real him show through at college, the crazy him.
All the haters could talk to the hand.
He looked over to where they led him and saw a small bedroom. He could use a nap, he thought, as he plopped down on the dusty bed in the room. The room was otherwise empty, except for a small nightstand next to the bed.
He grew curious and slid open the small thin drawer. Inside was a little bulletin board with a paper covering it. The paper had fanatic writing all over it. "Don't say it, don't think it".
"It," Elliot said to himself again. This time he was sure there'd be laughter, and was sorely frustrated when none sounded in his ears. He angrily crumpled up the paper and threw it on the ground, cursing under his breath.
He marched off into the small bathroom connected to his bedroom and yanked on the sink. He looked himself in the eyes, "You are hilarious. You are the funniest man I know. You were born to be a comedy God."
This continued for about 20 minutes until he tired himself out. Walking back to the bed, he saw the little brown board where he had thrown it on the ground. He sighed and picked it up. Putting it back in the drawer, he saw something carved into the texture. "BYE BYE MAN."
"Bi-ay....byea.... By- Ee....," Elliot attempted to sound it out. After 3 minutes of good effort, he slammed the drawer shut again and fell onto the bed. He crossed his arms as he frowned himself to sleep.
Bye Bye Man's POV
Bye bye man rolled his eyes as he watched from the side of the bed. 'Great,' he thought, 'I have to haunt a fucking idiot again.' Thinking over what the boy had managed to sound out, he deemed the noises close enough to his name to pass as summoning. It's not like anyone would know anyway. Time to mess up this kid's life.
He sneaked his way over to the side of the bed, catching a good look at the boy in front of him for the first time. His malice quickly disintegrated when he caught sight of how peaceful the human looked before him. His messy curls hid his sleeping eyes and framed his pale face so well. He was small, but not scrawny. He was just Bye Bye Man's type. The demon blinked, smitten.
Suddenly, he felt very self-conscious. He looked down to his ratty green shirt and dusty old cloak. He was way out of this human's league. He'd never go for a freak like him.
Bye bye man stepped back, tears welling up in his eyes as he heard his father's voice in his head. "You'll never amount to anything. Nobody will ever love you." He decided he'd sit this haunting out. This guy was too hot for him. He breathed out, closing his eyes as he stepped back again. The old floor creaked out loudly under his foot. He looked to Elliot to see if he had noticed, holding his breath.
The human's eyes crept open. Bye bye man would have just vanished if he hadn't gotten lost in the human's blue eyes. Elliot looked surprisingly unalarmed as he saw the demon before him. He sat up and shrugged. "You're new."
Bye bye man was taken aback. No human had ever... Talked to him before in such a passive way. He wasn't sure how he felt. He couldn't speak. Looking to Elliot's expectant face, he cleared his throat.
"...New?" he asked, unsure.
"I've never hallucinated you before. It's not bad, it's good to change things up. You got a name?"
"...B-bye bye man..."
"Well, it's certainly good to meet you." Elliot smiled and Bye bye man could only stand stiff in his place. The human thought he was in his head? 'I mean, he's not wrong,' BBM thought. 'And I'm not gonna correct him. He's.. Talking to me.'
It was Bye Bye's turn to talk. "G-good to meet you too."
They stared at each other for a solid ten seconds. Bye bye enjoyed every second of it.

"I-I should be going now," he told Elliot. Elliot nodded knowingly and lay back down on the bed. Bye bye man rushed towards the door, blushing furiously. Just before he escaped, he heard the boys voice call to him, "Will I see you again?"
The bye bye man hesitated before responding, a visiting turning around. "Yeah. See you later."

Elliot drifted back into sleep, smiling. The bye bye man knew he was in love.
