During their walk towards the basement, Jack has to give her male counterpart props for not trying to pull any more moves on her. Dean's completely focused as they search for Sam, and Jack can't help but act the same way. They've been sent on a wild goose chase by a ghost. And because it's a psycho ghost... Well, that makes this hunt harder than what Jack originally thought.
As the two hunters step off the stairs, Dean starts shouting his younger brother's name as he looks around. "Sammy? Sam, you down here?"
"Sam?" Jack calls.
"Sam!"
No answer. Now, this could be one of two things. One, Sam's actually not down here. He's safely upstairs, meeting up with the inquisitive teens the hunters saved earlier tonight. Or two, the towering hunter has been lured into a trap by Casper the Unfriendly Ghost and is dead, meaning that Jack and Dean are very close to meeting the same fate.
Jack tugs on Dean's jacket, the taller man giving her a quizzical look. She shakes her head, motioning for them to try searching another part of the basement, and she can practically see the tension and anxiety rolling off of him in waves. He's worried about his brother, and Jack understands perfectly. But they need to come up with a better plan if they don't want casualties or more complications.
Dean is hesitant, clearly not wanting to regroup and rethink if it meant they wasted time, but with a small sigh, he agrees with the raven haired woman. They turn on their heels immediately, nearly crashing into the figure that has appeared in front of them almost out of thin air. Jack jumps at the same time Dean does, and on hunter's instinct, they both raise their weapons. Jack has to stop herself from letting her arrow fly straight into the guy's head, but her heart calms at the sight of the familiar face.
Dean lowers his shotgun first, angry. "Man, answer me when I'm calling you! You alright?" he asks a straight faced Sam.
The young man nods. "Yeah. I'm fine."
The two boys exchange information about the hunt, Jack watching them in the background as the conversation reminds her of talks between herself and her father. His firm tone, assertiveness, the way he rubbed the stubble on his chin when he was mulling over what Jack offered as professional hunting expertise. She even recalls the proud glimmer in his eyes when the explanation made sense, meaning that Jack's years of rigorous training and studying paid off.
Jack returns from her short lived memory when she overhears Sam stating that he might have been lured to the basement by something. "I think Dean and I know who," she interrupts. Sam raises an eyebrow in confusion, but his face is expectant so she continues. "Dr. Ellicott. That's what the spirits have been trying to tell us."
Dean nods in agreement. "Yeah." He gives his younger sibling a glance. "You haven't seen him, have you?"
"No," Sam shakes his head. "How do you know it was him?"
The huntress points towards the satchel crossed over Dean's chest. "'Cause we found his log book. Apparently, he was experimenting on his patients. Like, really messed up stuff," she affirms with a sick expression on her face.
"Makes lobotomies look like a couple of aspirin," Dean adds solemnly.
At Jack and Dean's discovery, Sam blinks a couple times as he tries to regain control of his train of thought. "But it was the patients who rioted," he frowns.
"Yeah." Jack knows how puzzling the story has turned into. All evidence pointed towards the dead mental patients, that they were the ones causing all of these tragedies, but... "They were rioting against Dr. Ellicott." And that was the truth.
