Chapter 7: Guts
Jack's Point of View

Is this what it feels like?
Finding out
That I've got the guts
To say anything
~~~~~
"Jack." Roni gasps.
"Who the fuck is this?" Her dad demands.
"Um, daddy this is Jack Barakat." She answers.
"Yeah, I figured that, but why is he hugging you?" He asks.
"Because she's my girlfriend." I blurt, making Roni's eyes become huge as she looks at me.  I smile at her reassuringly
"Veronica, is this true?" The woman beside Roni's dad questions.
"Yes!" Roni squeals and hugs me and her dead cat tighter.
I smile as she kisses the corner of my mouth. I was going to kiss her fully on the lips but her father clears his throat loudly. Making Roni shove away quickly like a deer caught in headlights.
"Yes daddy?" She asks softly, her eyes widening to the size of dinner plates.
"How do I know that he won't hurt my little girl?" He says softly.
"Sir, I swear to God-" I start but am cut off.
"My daughter is an atheist." Her father answers.
"I swear to Canada," I stop, looking at Roni for approval.
"Go on Love." Roni coos, stroking the white cat in her lap as she looks at me.
"I swear to Canada that I will never hurt Roni, because it would be like hurting myself." I answer truthfully.
Her dad opens his mouth but the youngest boy elbows the oldest one.
"Dad, let Midget date who she wants. Remember what happened last time you told her that she couldn't do something?" The oldest boy says.
"I frankly do not remember Brandon." Roni's dad answers.
"She dyed her hair blue. And then began her addiction to piercings." An blonde girl chirps.
"Then she became a rebel." The other boy says.
"She punched Tommy Duke in the face and got kicked out of school for three days." The youngest boy continues.
"And drank syrup until she passed out every night." A redheaded girl ends.
"Gentry, Cody, Tony, Amber, be nice to your father. Brandon you too. And Bradley, you cannot tell our baby girl who she can date." The woman that called my girlfriend Veronica snaps.
They all begin to argue. Roni crinckles her nose and groans.
"YO CUNTS I'M LEAVING NOW!" She announces, looking at her siblings and parents.
"What?! Why?!" The youngest boy asks, panicked.
"Because if all you guys care about is that I'm dating Jack then I am leaving." Roni says, which makes them all start to argue again.
"Jack, could you carry Ash and I back home?" She whispers in my ear.
"Of course sweetheart." I answer and stand up.
"Peaceskies CoCo, Tree, Tone, Ambi, Brandy, Mummy and Daddy." Roni says so softly that they didn't even hear her.
I walk out, holding the small girl to my chest. Alex and Skye sat in the vehicle. They smile reassuringly to Roni as they meet her gaze. She smiles brightly and kisses the corner of my mouth. I smile and kiss her nose. She lays her cat in the back, on a tire with lipstick marks all over it. We crawl into the backseat. Roni pulls out her phone and turns the video camera on.
"I'm dating Jack Barakat." She says, with a million dollar smile.
"And I'm dating the future Roni Barakat." I smirk and kiss her on the cheek.
"TO NEW YORK CITY BITCHES!" Roni yells, climbing onto my lap.
"We have 17 hours to get to know each other. So twenty questions?" I ask, looking into her stormy eyes.
"That sounds amazeballs." She answers.
"Okay, want to start?" I question.
"Yes! What's your favorite Blink song?" Roni asks.
"Easy, it's Adam's Song," I say, and she picks up a notebook and pen from the back.
"My turn. Favorite... Color!" I blurt.
"Red. Favorite drink?" She writes something down, and looks up at me.
"Rockstar energy drinks. Favorite smell?" I ask.
