I'm sitting in my AP History class not paying any attention at all when all of a sudden my I feel my iPhone 4S start to vibrate in my pocket, telling me that I have a new text. I quickly pull it out and unlock it from under my desk. I look down and see that the text is from one of my friends, Liam.
“Hey Maris, wat r u doin in the Oct holidays?” It read. Curious as to why Liam was asking me this, I quickly replied with,
“Nothing special, just the usual sleeping in and hanging @ the beach. Y u ask?” Within seconds, I got another text saying,
“Meet me where we usually hang aftr skl, make sure the othrs r there 2, and I’ll tell u.” I shoved my phone back into the pocket of my new skinny jeans that I had brought from Supre last weekend & quickly finished off my notes before the bell rang. I picked up my bag, slung it over my shoulder and stride out of class as quickly but elegantly as possible. I continue to walk down the hallways, smiling to myself as the crowd of students go out of their way to part for me. Ahh, the joys of being at the top.
I walk out of the school and make my way around to the back of the building, which is where we “populars”, as others have deemed us, always meet up during lunch and after school. I see that Liam is there and I walk up to him.
“Hey, what’s all of this about? And why exactly did you tell me to make sure the others were here, you know this is where we always hang after school every day, why would today be an exception?” I ask raising an eyebrow.
“I just wanted to make sure that all of us would definitely be here, I want you all to hear what I’m going to say.” I roll my eyes and take a seat at the benches in the shade.
Eventually, the rest of our friends turn up, and soon enough all 10 of us are sitting around, socialising and gossiping about today’s matters, of which included the rumour about Chantelle Adams dropping out of school because she got pregnant with some random guy she met at a party’s baby.
Now, I guess that before I go any further, I should introduce all of my friends, and tell you a little bit about myself. My name is Miranda Santorez; I live in Portsea, an Australian suburb in Victoria. Portsea is the 3rd richest suburb in Australia, so most of us are pretty well done by. My dad owns a major law firm and my mother is a well known artist, and I am one of two children, my sister is only just 13 and I am 16 going 17, making me the oldest between us.
We attend Portsea High, an elite private school that is thought of to be the best private school out there, but that’s only because we don’t have a dress code or any type of uniform. The popular group at school is made up of 10 of us, 5 boys and 5 girls. I am the most confident so I am naturally thought of as the leader, which is really quite rewarding. I’m talking about having other people offer to do your homework for you, always being able to cut to the front of the line, getting invited to all of the parties and never, ever getting into trouble. So, you could say it’s pretty sweet.
The five girls in our group are Ashleigh Hughes- the crazy carefree energetic one (and my closest girlfriend), Lindsay Flanagan- the posh gossipy one, Amber Riles- the fashion crazed one and Taylah Moore- the cute, innocent one. The boys, however, are Liam Flack- the “main man” as you could say, Jack Greenvale- the flirt and Liam’s best friend (who is actually hotter than Liam but is just under-appreciated), Hayden Sandly- the joker, Luke Anderson- the bad boy and lastly, James Kingsley- the jock, who is in practically every sports team there is. And of course, I am the leader of the girls and Liam is the same with the boys, however, we have managed to avoid the stereotype and we have never dated, or never plan on it because we are mainly just close friends.
Anyways, moving on. After school each day, we have a hangout spot behind the building where a bunch of tables are, and they’re all in under trees to shade us from the hot Aussie heat. And for some reason, Liam insisted that he had all of our attention to make an announcement, which was very unlike him.
“Ok, guys, so as you know because we’ve all been counting down, there’s only 7 days left until the October holidays, which means only 7 days left until we have 2 whole weeks of sun, beaches, babes and most importantly- no work! Normally, we all just spend our holidays travelling, sleeping, and lying at home watching movies or shopping. But this year, it’s different because for once, we will all be here, in Portsea, for the whole holidays. It just so happens to be that my family has just purchased a new beach house up in the hills- and when I say beach house, I mean there’s the house, then stairs going straight down to the crystal blue ocean and the jetty. So, my parents being the awesome people they are said that I can have all of us stay in the beach house, without our parents, for the whole 2 weeks!” Liam announced with a grin on his face. A few of us cheered, and I just sat there smiling, thinking that maybe this holidays might actually be better than the time my parents took me to Paris and London, where I spent the whole time shopping and having a fling with a hot British boy.
“Unfortunately, my older brother Samuel will have to be there, but not to worry- he’s only going to be there so he can supply the alcohol!” Liam added. His older brother Sam is 24 so if he stays with us, he’ll be able to get us any type of drink we want. When we were 15, Jack had a party when his parents were out of town & Sam managed to get a hold of 35 cases of Coronas and 20 bottles of Absolut vodka. Needless to say, Sam’s pretty cool.
“So what do you all think?” Liam asked, awaiting our opinions. I decided to say what I thought.
“I think it’s going to be a motherfucking awesome two weeks!” I exclaim laughing along with Ashleigh.
“Cool you guys. Miranda, why don’t you and the girls all go shopping this weekend, by a heap of new dresses, new shoes, new bikinis, whatever you guys want. Oh, and I might invite a few people from around where the house is and a couple of people from school to some of the parties, but not too many and they won’t be staying there. So go home, check with your parents ‘cuz we don’t want any drama, and let me know by Thursday, then you guys can all go home from school then I’ll send one of the stretch hummas over around 6:00, k?” He elaborates, and then leaves to take a call from somebody. We all gather in a group and starting chatting excitedly about how awesome these holidays are going to be. Eventually, our drivers arrive and we all leave, one by one until it’s only Jack and I left.
“So, what do you think about this? Seems pretty cool, huh?” He smirks, leaning against the wall with his hands in the pockets of his jeans looking so damn sexy.
“Yeah, sounds great. I just can’t wait for the parties, especially if they’re going to be anything like yours last year.” I say winking at him. He chuckles deeply, the noise rumbling through his chest, knowing full well that I’m talking about the fact that we made out in his room for pretty much the whole second part of the party once we were drunk.
Finally, both of our drivers pull up in our cars, his sleek black Lexus, mine a white Mercedes Benz.
“Well, I’ll talk to you later I guess.” He says as he chucks his bag into the boot.
“When do you not?” I say flirtily and we both hop into the cars and wait for our drivers to close our doors before we are both whisked away.
