I'm a Shadow. Fear Me.

I've always been at least slightly interested in teaching at schools in my district. Especially since I'm part of the generation I am in. So many teachers are retiring in schools and if the rate continues, there's not going to be enough teachers to keep open the schools I went to and others like it. So they're putting out urgent calls to my age group in particular, trying to find anyone who is willing to be a pastor or teacher for our congregations and others of the same faith.

Although I am REALLY leaning towards a culinary career, I've still got a little voice inside my head telling me just how fun teaching would be. So as of writing this, I'm going into my sister's school and "shadowing" the first grade teacher, who although I never got to a student of hers, she was my grade school choir director and is just so nice. It's basically going to be where I'm a student teacher of sorts for a day. I'm not going to be teaching any lessons (although I might. Who knows lol), and I get to help out the teacher and see what it's like teaching younger kids. I'm hoping that this can help re-spark the flame I had when I was younger saying that I was going to be a teacher and be the best that I could be.

EDIT: Here's how it went!
All the little kids are absolutely ADORABLE. They all kept calling me "Miss LASTNAME" and begged me to sit by them at lunch, play with them at recess, help them with their reading. There were a few of those typical troublemaking boys who I had to help read, and we did patterns in math. I even got to read them a story or two. One of the little girls even drew me a picture on a whiteboard. They all kept begging me to come back the next day and help them out again, which I responded with "I'd love to, but I have school tomorrow!" And then they were all "AWWWW!" Those kids were precious and I'd love to help out again.

Also, I've got play tryouts tomorrow! I'm going for the role of the stereo-typical character that's just there for comedic relief. She's literally me in a nutshell so as long as I get a good voice in check I should be fine. Results are on Wednesday, wish me luck!
