It was September time in 2016. The leaves on the trees were just turning golden with the hint of autumn; children were starting to wrap up warm , shielding themselves from the harsh winds and conkers were falling from the treetops.

It was at this time that the school gained a new student. His name was minnow miller, but he wasn't an ordinary student .

He walked up the steps of the school gate and sighed. His curly blue hair matched the shade of the sky, blowing in the chilly autumn wind. He adjusted his bag strap and walked through the big double doors, a daunting feeling settling over him.

Minnow pursed his lips together, walking to the reception and asking for his timetable. "Of course dear, now what was your name again?" the reception lady asked, her dyed-red hair falling over the stack of files on the desk. "Minnow. Minnow Miller." his voice was hesitant, shy, not really sure what to say.

"Oh, Bellamy's boy!" she smiled warmly. He shuffled awkwardly on his feet his cheeks burning with embarrassment. "Foster child" he corrected quietly, pulling his sleeves over his hands. "Oh tamato, tomato" the receptionist grinned broadly at him.

With his feet dragging on the floor and his head down low, Minnow walked reluctantly onto his first lesson. Maths. Minnow sighed, already dreading the next few months of school he would be forced to endure.

In fact, he was so distracted by his morbid thoughts that he didn't notice the boy in front of him until they were both sprawled on the floor, their books flying everywhere.

The boy was at least 6'5, a jock for sure, with a sharp jawline and warm brown eyes. Although he probably wasn't that scary, Minnow was absolutely terrified of the black haired, freckly boy.

Yelping like a dog, Minnow scurried away from the giant on the floor. However, since he was only 5'7, everyone was tall to him. He hastily shot his arm out, grabbed his bag and pulled it out of reach. Minnow blinked quickly and glanced wearily up at the boy.

With a stutter forming in his throat he spoke quietly, hugging his bag to his chest."I'm so s-sorry, I wasn't l-looking where I was g-going."

The boy's gaze travelled up and down the small boy before him. Cocking his head to the side and squinting his eyes, he sighed "That's quite alright, but I don't think I've seen you here before, are you new?" he asked.

Minnow gulped and shook his head ." Y-yes, I'm new here." He whispered. The boy pursed his lips together and nodded, standing up and extending his hand to help pull up Minnow. He flinched a little and, keeping his head down low, Minnow stood up and made his way over to the bathroom — deciding on the way to skip lesson altogether.

Once he was out of sight, he locked himself in a cubical and sat down on the closed toilet seat. Minnow shuddered and crumpled into the wall as a vivid memory crashed into his head, sucking the life out of him as he sobbed on his own shoulder.

He breathed quickly; in short, pained breaths, trying to gain control of himself. Unfortunately for him, it was impossible. The images inside his mind beat him like all the people in his life had; stabbing at him with blunt, painful thought-swords.

He clamped a hand over his mouth as he heard the footsteps coming closer to the door — and then stop. The only sound was the rain spattering against the window.

"Why are you crying?"
