The cries and pleas of pathetic humans played through the hallways at the dingy lit hospital. Something was pushing me to the maternity ward. The smell of baby oil makes me nauseous. My feet stop as I pass by a room with two parents who are crying while holding a baby. Against my own will I step in the room. The couple were so heartbroken they didn't even notice I was in the room until after a few moments until their sobs starting getting annoying, I cleared my throat. Their attention finally focused on me and their eyes widened in fear.
"You summoned me?" I asked with a slight bitter tone. The woman who I assumed was the mother nodded eagerly.
"Y-yes." The mother stuttered.
The baby let out an ear-shattering cry and the mothers bloodshot eyes went back to her infant. The woman cuddled her baby protectively and glanced at the father who turned his attention to me. Without an answer, I already knew why they summoned me.
"Can you save her?" The middle aged man blurted out. He had balding light brown hair and wrinkles around his eyes. His crisp suit suggested that he had rushed over from the office. I looked at him as though he were stupid.
"Of course I can save her, although that comes with a price." I smirk and my eyes glanced over to the new born baby.
"What exactly is that price?" The dad spoke coolly, although you could tell the tension in the room was thick.
"I don't think the price will matter to you if I save your daughters life." I taunt, hoping to get some kind of reaction out of him. I hate humans.
"Why you son of a bitch!" The man says sourly. I ignore him and start heading to the door.
"Wait, Richard. We need to save our baby girl." She said kindly with tears in her eyes. What a pity.
I stopped walking to the door and paused in one place. My smirk became wider but my back was turned to them so they didn't see. Humans are so easy to manipulate, I almost feel sorry for them. Keyword...Almost. I walk back to the couple slowly.
"Are you sure you want to do this?" I ask looking both of them in the eye. "You can't take it back, or I will not only take away her life, but yours as well. Got it?'
Both of them nodded slowly with fear etched into their faces. I walked slowly to the mother cradling her infant and picked up the baby. I wrapped my arms carefully around her and stroked her cheeks ignoring the worried faces of the parents.
"This will only hurt a bit, baby." I whisper gently in her ear and kissed her forehead, whispering a dark spell into the air. When I was done I gave her back to the mother.
"I'll see you in sixteen years, Elywnn" I tell her soothingly.
"Sixteen years, what?!?!" Her father spoke quickly. "What do you mean sixteen years?".
Her mom whispered quietly, "How did you know her name was Elywnn?"
I ignore their sounds of protest and walk out the hospital as quickly as I came.
