" It may sound weird- I may sound weird, but you are the only person which I. . . find normal. " I said, looking at him and feeling nervous.
His eyes widened slightly after what I said before he motioned for me to sit, which I did and he lets out a breath. " Vivian, right? " I nod. " Honestly, I may or may not know some of the answers, but you'll probably freak out and maybe go crazy. "
I raise an eyebrow, " I don't think I would go crazy. So, would you mind telling me what's happening now? "
" Things here have kinda. . . changed. " Conner says.
" As if I hadn't already knew that. " I sigh, looking at the other students in class who are making loud noises and throwing stuffs around. " It feels like everything became the complete opposite. "
" Yeah, it's really weird. " He glances around. " I think that we need to fit in and blend with them. Everyone has changed and I'm afraid that if we continue to live normally like how we used to, they'll probably do something to us. "
My eyes widen slightly. " Are you crazy? Look at me, I can't even be like them. I don't really fit that role and attitude. "
Conner seems amused by my reaction. " And that's why you need to practice blending in. "
=====
We were sitting together in the cafeteria in a corner, looking at the students once in a while and discussing how to blend in. " As you know, we both are the quiet type in class. Seeing as everyone changed the complete opposite, we gotta be the noisy rude students. "
I thought for a moment while chewing my fry. " It'll take me a while to act like that for god who knows how long. Maybe even forever. . . "
" Hey, you need to think of positive things. The things happening right now could changed back to all our normal lives again, tomorrow or in the future. " Conner says, giving me a look.
" I hope so. " I sigh and wonder. "What even happened to the earth for everyone to be like that though? "
" You know how some people say that weird things happen every time? Maybe this is one of the weird things. "
I stare at Conner's face for a while, trying to digest what he just said. " That sounds logical but look around us, this is far from weird! This is. . . " I couldn't find a right word to describe whats happening to our lives.
" Weird? " He laughs, ending my sentence and I furrow my eyebrows.
" So, since everyone changed the complete opposite, those famous and loud students will become good and quiet while the quiet good ones will be those noisy troublesome people? "
" To make it short, yes. What you are will become the complete opposite. And that makes us the famous noisy bunch of students. " He said and I groan.
Some students were running around and a guy almost got shoved into our table. " Sorry about that, this game is kinda crazy. " He says and a girl rolls her eyes.
" Just watch where you are going next time. " Conner says, his voice sounding slightly pissed.
The boy tips his hat in our direction before running off to catch up with his noisy bunch of friends. I look at Conner, slightly confused at his different tone of voice. " Like what I said, you got to blend in. And you, Vivian, needs some practice. "
=====
I bump into as many people I possibly could while going back to class.
Since Conner kept annoying me earlier and saying, ' Oh Vivian, you need to blend in. You need to fit in. You need to be mean. ' I gave him a look saying, " Watch me. "
Conner tried to hold his laugh whenever I bump into someone and glare at them slightly. Groaning mentally, I gave him a shoved and he stumbled but he caught himself. " That wasn't nice Vivian. "
I shrug. " You told me to be mean. "
Conner then mimicked me. " Look at me, I can't be like them. I don't really fit that role and attitude. "
" Shut up! " I said, laughing slightly.
We arrived at our class and I went to sit next to Conner, who started doodling on a piece of paper since I'm pretty sure the class won't be studying. I look around and some students were jamming their musics loudly, some reading and being quiet.
" Oh my god, Conner. I just remembered, our exams. They are next week. " I said and he looks up. " We uh. . . We need to fail them? For real? "
Conner thought for a while before slowly nodding. " I think it's better if we fail them. But still continue to study for it, we never know when things will be normal again. Imagine if it changes back a day before the exams and we'll both be screwed. "
" Oh god, please no. We- No, I'll be dead if my mom sees my results. " My eyes widen at the thought. " But you know, I bet some of us would gladly fail the exams if they were here and get a scholarship.
Our teacher came in and as usual, did nothing except going on his phone and not bothering to shut the others up. I let out a frustrated sigh and continued doodling. Being the completely opposite of myself would be really hard, it would take me some time to change.
I sat up straight at that thought and grab Conner's arm, " What if, what if. We've been chosen by the people who are like working for the government and we've been drugged when we fell asleep the night before everything changed. Maybe we are doing a test right now together, and. . . they are watching us. " Goosebumps started to form when I thought about that.
I glance around the room, trying to find some kind of secret camera, but instead, some of the students looking at me weirdly. I glare at them before turning back to Conner. " What if they've been watching us the entire time? Trying to see how we are adapting to the change? Maybe this experiment was to see how fast we adapt and change ourselves or something. Like, some kind of test. And maybe when we've passed the test, we'll wake up. But our lives won't be normal again. " My grip on Conner's arm tighten. " Oh my god! What if this is some kind of experiment we saw in the movies like The Hunger Games and The Maze Runner?! Where they keep watching us from behind the screens but we'll get them back at the end and become heroes? "
My eyes were wide by the time I stopped talking, looking at him and my hand still on his arm. Conner just stared at me for a few seconds before laughing. I raised an eyebrow, " This is not a laughing matter Conner! I'm serious. "
" Honestly Vivian, I really liked your imagination. But seriously, I don't think we've been drugged and being watched while doing this 'test'. Your point may kinda sound legit but I don't think that's the case. I just feel like this is real, the change. No people watching us. Just that the world completely flipped around and changed everything, except us. " Conner says, looking me in the eye.
I slumped against my chair, " I guess you are right. I watched too much movies. But wouldn't it be cool though, the chosen ones and becoming heroes. Sounds like a fantasy. "
Conner chuckles, " And if that were to be a movie, it will probably be called 'Changed'. "
" I would so watch it. " I lean against my hand on the table as I look at Conner.
" Say, how about going into town tomorrow or something to see how things have been? We can even work on our personalities. " Conner suggests.
I shrug, " Sure. I don't think my mom would care since everyone's supposedly has changed. "
