It's now been a few days since I saw the news update, I've barely been able to sleep, I can't now that I've seen the faces of my family and friends. Ma told me a few days ago that the guy who leads the Eye, Baron, wants to talk to me. She doesn't know what about but she seemed pretty serious about it. She told me he will see me as soon as I was able to walk better on my own, that should be in a couple a days at most. She's also been the one helping me build up my legs again. It's all an extremely long and, at times, painful process. We started using a came of sorts the balanced me at my waist while still holding me up. I started walking around my room under her supervision so I don't fall and make things worse. I can only walk about ten minutes at a time.
"Alright good now go to the other wall." She instructed from the bed as I finally made it to the far right wall.
I slowly used the came to my advantage until I made it, faster than last time. Progress I suppose.
"Perfect." She joyed.
"Now, do you want to try it without the cane?"
"I can try." I said, a bit nervous.
She nodded and placed my arm around her shoulder to keep me balanced while she took the cane from me. I stood for a moment with nothing but her holding me up.
"Ok. I'm gonna let go now, think you got it?" She asked.
"Yeah....but can you count me off?"
"Yeah. One....two.....three." she let go and I was standing, actually standing on my own for the first time in a month.
She asked me to take a step forward. I did so with ease. And remained motionless. I smiled at my own ability. She returned it.
"Great! That's enough for today, I'll get you on a brace tomorrow and we should have you walking in a few days."
"Cool." My only reply.
"Aren't you excited?" She saw my reaction. I had none.
"Of course but....when am I going to see my family again?"
She hesitated again before answering.
"Honestly....I don't know. But if it helps I think that's what Baron wants to talk to you about."
"I've never even met this guy. How do I know he'll even let me leave." I've lost a lot of hope by now.
"He has to eventually. Only one thing could happen that will somewhat keep you here."
"And what's that?"
She's silent again and answers.
"You join us."That shocked me. Why would they want me to join them.
"What?" I ask to clarify.
"If you join us you are sworn into secrecy. Break that and....well you know. But if you join us, you go home and live somewhat of a regular life. The only catch is you do what we do on your spare time. Help the world, one state at a time." She answers.
"How would that possibly be normal? Even a little bit?" I ask.
"You go home eat, sleep ,go to school and, well blend in really. Noone can know what you do at night." She simply states.
We were silent for a moment. I was trying to take in what she was saying."What do you think I should do?" I asked, now wanting a second opinion.
"I can't tell you what to think. But, I think you should think about it. Ya know, keep it in mind. It pays, you get fed, rest, shelter....think about it as a second family. Only we're hidden." She said seriously....She really meant it. I now got curious.
"What would I possibly be doing? I'm just your average loner." I ask.
"You could do anything here. You can be trained Dante, do you think Talon was a naturally smart crow, no Shade trained him to not only benefit himself but also the group." She responds, full of hope.
"Even if, I don't know. It's a lot to think about but I'll keep it in mind."
"Good. Now get some rest, you got a lot to think about." She walks towards the door but stops at it.
"Goodnight Dante." I look and return her a smile.
"Goodnight."
Within minutes of her leaving I was tired. I layed back down and once again covered my eyes from the light above, the light reminded me of when I got here, ya know....shot and all. She was right about one thing: I have a lot to think about. I let those thought flow through my head until I felt myself daze a little, by now I rolled to my side to get a little more comfortable. I eventually drifted into a peaceful sleep.A/N- Hey guys! So I decided to publish this now and continue to write as time goes on. I'm going for at least 25 chapters in this book before doing a sequel. Hope you guys enjoyed so far and thanks for reading!
