What a Life Changer

Chapter One

     A young girl's cry is heard across the hall, until a sudden thump and repeated cries of agony echoed throughout the halls. A typical day of Hamilton public middle school. Footsteps resonated loudly on the linoleum flooring. A fight had ensued two boys roughing each other up, one was more sturdy but he was clearly losing, the more lean boy had him in a head lock and was pounding him with punches one after the other. The larger male flipped over the smaller boy and gained on him, but the younger boy smirked and laughed, his teeth barred and his hands scratching at his face, arms and eyes leaving him a bloody mess on the floor, again, screaming in agony the crowd cheered the name 'Jacobson' which had to have been the smaller male's name. Jacobson smiled, his classic toothy grin and turned to face his defeated rival. But before he could land on his final blow. A loud "Quiet!" was heard bellowing forth from a larger balding man. His name tag said, 'Principal Newton' and he scurried his way over to the fallen boy and glared at the standing one.

     "Jacobson Lambrecht and Antonio Valdez in my office, now!" The boy now known as Antonio failed on getting up, so other students rushed to his aid. A slight 'tsk' was heard from Jacobson, as he walked off to the man's office. Upon getting there, he slumped down in a comfortable chair in front of the principal's desk. A glare stood still on Mr. Newton's face.

     "Look, Sir.. He started it! That no good Antonio Valdez! He was hitting a poor girl! Pulling at her hair and teasing her! That male specimen has no right I say! No right! So here I am, a good citizen, minding my own business until I heard a scream of utter despair! So I rushed forth to her aid and beat up Valdez!"

     "Likely story.. Jacobson.. You're the biggest bully in this school! Now tell me what really happen--" right before the man could finish his sentence, a much more fragile child walked in. The boy was about a year younger than Jacobson (him being thirteen) but much smaller, and seemingly weaker, and in the moment the talkative Jacobson had nothing to say. A smirk appeared on his lips and while a bloodied Valdez stepped in. Jacobson had little to no choice glare his way when he saw 'The male specimen', look at the new kid in utter disgust, nothing but a smirk came to the face of Valdez as he bent down slightly and whispered something into the new child's ear. Sad, the child looked down at the ground, he was shaking more prominent now, the thin sheet of paper he was holding seemed to be flapping in the nonexistent wind. ''Alesander Begay, isn't it?'' the boy could hardly bare to nod at the principal's questioning; a small smile played on the lips of the principal but before he could speak a loud ''BE-gay'' was heard. Jacobson blocked out the conversation only staring into the new boys deep brown eyes. Jacobson's eyes traveled his body, looking for anything he could use to his advantage, landing on his tanned arms he noticed the boys small wrists trembling; he then turned to gaze out the window. "Jacobson! Are you even listening?" He turned his attention to the man.

     "No sir, what did I miss?" Looking at his surroundings, he realized Antonio had gone off somewhere probably to get punished for calling the new kid gay.

     "I asked you to take Mr. Alesander here to his classroom."

     "Oh, okay." Jacobson responded and the two boys stepped out of the office. After figuring out that Alesander's class was Jacobson's class they started off. Before they got even ten feet away from the door, Jacobson looked at the new kid earnestly and seriously. "Is your actual name... Begay?"
