A.N.: Hello! This is my first story, so I hope you enjoy it! Feedback would be lovely, if you could! I'm trying not to make this story cliché. Just trust me, it will be better.
"Wake up, Rachel! We don't have time for you to sleep!" my sister's voice said in my ear. I stirred with a moan. My eyes were closed, but I could hear Amelia's footsteps running down the hall. "Come on...come on...come on!"
Deciding I would skip breakfast, I got ready for the day, and put some clothes on. I thought my maroon Harvard hoodie, skinny jeans, and black boots would suffice. I walked into the living room and saw that Amelia was in some of her best clothes. She wore a pink sweater, skinny jeans, and furry boots. I thought it was a perfect metaphor for our contrasting personalities. She sighed when I walked in.
"Really now? That's what you're wearing?"
I smiled. "Harvard pride!"
"Rachel, we're going to a movie set. Can't you find something more...high-end?"
"I'm sure no one will judge the girl wearing a hoodie for the most prestigious college in the world."
"Tell that to the Old Etonian."
A chill went up my spine. My favorite actor, Eddie Redmayne, was starring in the movie that my sister was a costume designer for. She was in charge of his, and only his, costumes. Amelia had gone to Juilliard for music, but she wanted to try costume designing for movies. She picked the movie shot nearby that would make me the most miserable.
Amelia had graduated college already, but I was still in. I went to Harvard. We lived in Harvard, Massachusetts, as roommates. I was going for a PhD in English. I wanted to be the best author I could be. I'd taken a year off after high school for a break, so I had one year to go before I got my degree.
I was two years older than Amelia, but she was much better socially. I was a bit of an old soul. I had made all A's through school, and I'd made a perfect 36 on my ACT. I had also been captain of the academic team in middle and high school. I had a small amount of friends, but I didn't mind, really. I had my sister, and that's all that mattered to me. I had wavy, chestnut brown hair that I curled when I could. I wasn't tall, though I wasn't short either. My large-pupiled, brown eyes reflected innocence. I wrote in my spare time, though I had very little. Much to Amelia's dismay, I didn't go out to parties and meet guys. I would settle down, I told her, when I was ready.
Amelia, on the other hand, was a young soul. She went to parties, but she had me to keep her in check. She'd had average grades, and she made a solid 27 on her ACT. She had great friends, mostly Harvard students that she'd met through me or in town. She still prioritized me, though. If I wanted a quiet night at home with her, she'd cancel all plans and spend time with me. She'd make tea, at which she was great, and we'd gossip about our friends or talk about her time at Juilliard. She was the perfect sister. She had curly red hair, and she was my height. She had bright green eyes. She had a nice boyfriend named Gideon, a law student. He was my best friend, and I'd introduced him to her. They hit it off right away. It had turned into the couple's life goal to find me a boyfriend.
I put on my red knit hat, grabbed my phone and purse, and we left to the studio. I plugged my phone into the car, so it came out the speakers. I was a good sister and didn't make Amelia listen to Les Misérables or The Beatles. No, I played her music. The popular stuff. We drove into the parking lot just as a song ended.
We walked in from the February cold. When Amelia opened the door, a burst of heat hit me, enveloping me in its sweet caress. I followed her over to a man, who I assumed was the director.
"Hello, sir, my name is Amelia Jacobson. I'm the costume designer for Mr. Redmayne."
"That's right. He's down that hall on your third left. Go ahead and take his measurements."
