It was quiet...
Too quiet...
Had they finally gone? Gotten sick and tired of putting up with me ignoring them?
Or had i just grown up?
I fell asleep that night with a smile on my face and no annoying voices in my ear.
~~~~~
Peeling my eyes open, i looked around the room.
Empty.
Were they really gone? For good?
I flung my legs out of bed, slipped my slippers on my feet, and crept out of bed.
Am i really free? Free from insanity? From stares?
"BOO!" Tayla jumped out from the doorway, making me fall backwards on my ass. She laughed
Fuck!
"We're back," she sang in her melodic voice.
Laughter from behind her told me that Josh was here too, then Bayden crept up from behind me, covered my eyes with his hands and says, "Guess who?"
~~~~~~~~~~
"You know," I said, munching on a piece of toast, "I must be insane."
"Why is that?" Josh asked
"Because i have imaginary friends"
"Oh, we're not imaginary," Bayden said, a cheeky grin forming on his face.
"What makes you think we're imaginary?" Tayla was not happy
"Well," I began," First of all, only I can see you. And you just disappear whenever you want to."
"Doesn't mean we're imaginary," Bayden smirked.
"We'll what are you then?" I demanded.
"Real"
I just looked at him like he was crazy.
Crazy? I don't even know the definition of the word anymore
"I guess i'll go back to pretending you don't exist then," I tried storming out of the room but Josh grabbed my arm and pulled me back. God he was strong, that is not normal.
"No please don't," He begged, "I thought we were your friends."
"Yeah, when i was five!"
"What ever happened to BFF's?" Tayla asked
"If you start believing we don't exist, then it starts to come true," Bayden whispered
My heart almost broke. They all looked so sad. Somewhere, deep down in the bottom of my heart, i didn't want to lose them. I had grown attached to them over the seventeen years.
I sighed "I'm sorry" A lone tear escaped down the side of my face as i walked out of the room.
I desperately wanted to believe, for their sakes and mine.
But i couldn't.
I curled myself up on the couch and prepared myself for a tidal wave of emotion.
Who knew i could get so attached to something that didn't even exist.
I felt a reassuring hand on my shoulder and looked up to see Bayden standing over me.
"Believe," he whispered.
It was then when i noticed one of his fingers missing on his hand, it was completely faded through. Gone. He was disappearing, all because of me.
"I'm trying guys," i sighed, "I really am. You're my only friends."
"Thank you," Tayla said
That was the only time i remember her being nice to me...
