A black shadow, featureless but menacing with the silhouette of a blade, stood against the small sliver of light from the door. The only exit. Fear anchored itself deep down and wrapping its claws around her mind, sending involuntary shivers down her spine as she stood there. Rain beat against the barred glass windowpane, with the wind howling like a banshee. "You cant hide from me.." the shadow spoke, its voice rough and gravel-like as if it hadn't been used for quite some time. It continued in a flat tone "I will always find you, no matter where you go, no matter where you hide... anywhere at all.." Crossing through the beam of light, the shadow was illuminated, a cheshire-like grin spreading across its face as it purred slightly "and do you know know why..?" Shock and recognition registered on her face before melting quickly into horror. The girl fell backwards, skittering away until she was cowering against the wall. "No.. no no no it cannot be..." her voice a soft whimper, filled with alarm and despair. Stalking towards her like a predator knowing its prey was trapped with no escape, the shadow tossed its head back with a maniacal laugh. With an evil grin, it lunges forward and plunged the blade deep into heart while voicing the girl's fear "because.. I AM YOU!"

BE-BEEP. BE-BEEP. BE-BEEP.  Groaning, she peeled back her eyelids, heavy with exhaustion. Her breath catching as she realized it was only a nightmare despite the cold sweat against her hot clammy skin. "Who was that.." she mumbled to herself while turning on her side. Squinting at the alarm clock, she rubbed her eyes, irises glimmering in a glacial iridescence as she peered closely at it. Clicking her tongue against her teeth in distaste, the female muttered "tsk... You gotta be kidding me." she slapped the top of the alarm and yanked the comforter over her head, curling up in an attempt to fall back asleep. But fragments of the dream kept resurfacing each time she closed her eyes.

A faint knock was heard, muffled underneath the comforter but still audible. The door creaked open on rusted hinges as a dark-haired male poked his head in. "Rui... Are you awake..?" his voice soft-spoken and familiar to her, comforting despite the awkward entrance. Peeking out from under the comforter, Rui smiled sheepishly at the male. "Yes Toshiro..? Did you need something?" her voice cracking on the last word as she rolled out of bed. With a small cough, Toshiro timidly stepped out from behind the door, stammering slightly while smiling, his face tinted a faint red from embarrassment "I m-made breakfast.. Was wondering if you were going to come down.."

Rui raised an eyebrow while examining him closely, a small smile tugged at the corner of her lips as she momentarily forgot about her dream. Toshiro's black hair was lopsided and sticking up in small tufts and spikes. His bright hazel eyes were still batting away the remainders of sleep, accompanied by a slight crease on his right cheek from the pillow followed by that familiar goofy grin. His shirt was crumpled with small spatters of a doughy batter, most likely from his attempt at cooking breakfast.

She chuckled slightly while running a hand through her wildly tangled raven-black hair, in an attempt to brush and smooth it down. "Sure. I'll be down for breakfast, just wait for me down there." Nodding, Toshiro turned and left, the soft thumps of his footsteps on the stairs. There was a stutter in the last step, followed by a deafening crash and his voice calling meekly from below "S-sorry! I-I'm okay, nothing is broken, I just s-slipped on the second to last step."

Bursting out into a fit of laughter, Rui hollered back "Be more careful Toshiro, you should know that step is always creaking and slippery." She shook her head in amusement while stretched her limbs. Reaching overhead towards the ceiling before bending down and touching her toes, she stood there basking in the golden sunlight pouring forth into her room, if only for a moment. Sighing, Rui glanced around the room before yanking a large t-shirt over her camisole and considered pulling on some shorts before deciding against it, reasoning with herself that the t-shirt was long enough to cover her panties. Snorting slightly, she smiled as a memory of an old friend was brought up...

"R-Rui you shouldn't s-strip down w-when a guy's around! E-even if its just me!" Hitoki stammered, his face blazing red as he covered his eyes, backing away and bumping into a potted plant. Rui tossed her hoodie to the side before straightening her shirt. Raising an eyebrow, she chuckled and stood there shaking her head "Its not like I'm doing anything wrong. And look" she laughed, pointing to herself, "I'm not butt-naked, nor in under-clothing. I only took off my hoodie, baka." In a t-shirt and shorts with her arms crossed, Rui continued to grin at her childhood friend's distress. Hitoki huffed, his ears burning from embarrassment as he cleared his throat, muttering "I-I knew that, b-baka..."

"As if Toshiro would even notice or care though." She scoffed, gliding towards the door with a smile before stopping suddenly, the feeling of unease causing the hair on her arms and back of her neck to rise in alarm. As if she were being watched. Rubbing the goose-flesh rising on her arms, she turned around, her smile overshadowed by doubt. Gaze sweeping around the room, from her closet to the window, Rui's eyes stopped at the old fashioned, silver-lined full-body mirror with her reflection staring back at her ominously. Shaking her head quickly, she scattered the remnants of her dreams before they could seep back into her thoughts and muttered "it was only a dream, I'm just scaring myself silly.." Hesitating, she muttered "I shouldn't keep Toshiro waiting for too long.." and briskly walking out of her room without turning back, she closed the door and went downstairs.
