Brisk forest wind blew through Papyrus's long red scarf, causing the fabric to flap behind him majestically. The snow crunched under the his red boots as he made his way through the forest outskirting Snowdin on his daily patrol. 'As a trainee of the royal guard it is my duty to ensure the safety of monsters by preventing any humans to get past this forest. If I capture a human I would become a hero among monster kind. The barrier would be broken after thousands of years and monsters would be able to see the surface again. Everyone's hopes and dreams could be resting on my strikingly amazing shoulders. Everyone would want to be my friend. This is very serious business.' He thought to himself as he did on every patrol.
'Tonight I will go to Undyne's and further my culinary knowledge. After my patrol and recalibrating my puzzles, of course. And checking on Sans.' Papyrus's eyes narrowed at that. Sans was most likely sleeping on duty again, as usual. 'How someone could ever be so lazy I will never know..' Papyrus sighed to himself. His brother may be lazy but he did raise Papyrus after all, despite how different they were.
Papyrus followed along his usual route, but a thought crossed his mind and he took a turn off his usual course. Walking through the deepest part of the forest, Papyrus stopped in front of a huge door. Large purple pillars loomed on the sides of the door to accent the large engraving of the delta symbol. It was unusual for there to be such an important looking in the middle of the forest. Much less one that bore the delta symbol, such as on the armor of King Asgore. He had first come across this doorway when Sans hadn't come home for dinner and Papyrus had found him talking to this door for some odd reason. Sans had laughed it off saying, "you can't have knock knock jokes without a door, Paps." It was suspicious none the less since there were enough doors for San's awful jokes in Snowdin. Papyrus felt as though Sans might be lying to him.
Papyrus felt along the door and pushed against it to see if there was any way to open it physically. As he guessed it was a strictly magic door that could only be opened with the consent of whoever had locked it. Which was even more unusual. If he remembered correctly from a book he found in San's room, when a monster fell down all their magic effecting people or things was to also disappear. Only humans' magic could be maintained even after they had died, as proven by the barrier. This meant that the monster who enchanted this door was still alive or that a human had done it. He would have to keep a better eye out for humans just in case.
Done with his examination, Papyrus turned around to finish his route. As he began to walk back into the forest he heard a twig snap. He quickly turned his head to the direction of the sound to see his brother coming in his direction. Sans seemed to be deep in thought and hadn't seen Papyrus yet. "SANS", Papyrus shouted. Sans jumped a little and looked up at Papyrus. Papyrus thought he looked nervous, maybe even guilty. "SANS WHAT ARE YOU DOING OUT HERE? YOU HAVE A SENTRY STATION TO ATTEND TO." The taller skeleton had walked up to the shorter one and was looking down at him. Sans rubbed the back of his head, "hey bro didn't think to see you here, got finished scouting late?"
Papyrus squinted accusingly at Sans. "LATE IS BETTER THAN NEVER, BROTHER." Sans was looking past Papyrus into the woods. "ARE YOU EVEN LISTENING SANS?" "huh, oh, yeah, tibia honest I just uhhh have something to do real quick I'll be back by dinner," Sans said a moment before he blinked off somewhere, leaving the faint smell of magic behind him. Papyrus was somewhat insulted at being cut off like that. But it was only to be expected, his brother was such a numbskull sometimes. The tall skeleton cringed at accidental pun that ran through his thoughts. Never less he still had his cooking lessons at Undyne's to look forward to. Papyrus made his way to the River Man to get a quicker ride to Undyne's than walking on foot.A/N: Wow this has been sitting around untouched since the beginning of the year. Can't believe I had motivation to finish but it was either sit around bored, watch To Kill A Mockingbird, or this. Guess what won.
