Chapter 1: slowly dying

The past months>

since the day the White Queen banished us into the outlands.. we've been walking.. or rather crawling into no known destination.

Stayne and I were once tainted hearts... corrupted by the Red Queen after serving her for many years.

the day she was defeated, was when her curse upon us broke.

when our true senses came back. Stayne became unusually fearful.. and tried to kill her as the three of us were bound.

though he wasn't successful.

after months of wandering the outlands.. the Queen broke free of her bounds.

in spite of knaves attempt to kill her she cuffed us together, and drug us behind her.

she didn't show mercy...

she put the pieces together and learned of mine and Stayne's history.

Backstory>

how we behaved around each other when we served under her... Made her jealous.. and angry.

but our love.. and history.. it went further back than what she thought.

when we were all much younger, my father was one of the greatest archers and swordsmen in the army that served her parents when they ruled.

I was destined to be just like him... and that I was.

he taught me everything I know.

I joined the royal army when I was nearly fifteen... and that's when I met him.

Stayne was seventeen when he joined.. he himself came from a family of knights.

the moment our eyes met.. it was forever.

the years passed.

our feelings fell deeper.. and we grew older.
he was twenty-one.. and I was now nineteen.

I remember the day of our sacrifice very clearly.

it was the day the Red Queen tore herself from her family.. and decided to attempt to take some of the soldiers with her as servants.

I worried about my fathers life and the lives of the others.. so I rushed to the town where she was telling lies and poisoning their minds.

I found my father and pushed through the crowd, he was in the second row of a sea of citizens.

taking it upon myself I pledged my services to her... and begged her to spare all else if we just left that very moment.

not soon after I sealed my words.. did Stayne show up and do the same to protect his fathers and family's interest as well.

but also doing it to be with me.. so that I wouldn't be alone under the Queen's wrath.

It was simple.. we joined Iracebeth so that she wouldn't harm the citizens and our parents.. hopefully, to sway her anger toward them.. we were the only ones to leave with her that day. no one else.. and that was what we wanted.

Early Backstory end)

years of service>

many years after that day. we served her carelessly.. and became just like her.. we were tainted by her and her ambitions.

sometimes our true selves would cry out... we would feel deeply saddened and hopeless.

over the years our families died. Iracebeth's parents as well.. the town was no longer inhabited.. old generations passed away and new ones moved on.

her sister ruled her own kingdom and thus did she...

Stayne and I had nothing else to protect... but did keep them safe for as long as we could.

but we were stuck now...

due to the Queen developing feelings for Stayne... we couldn't be together...

she wouldn't accept us... because of her jealously and anger.

She wanted Stayne for herself.. and would become furious if any woman showed him affection.

So we had to remain apart.. but she would catch us together at times.. and it was not pretty.

Stayne didn't always have scars or that eye patch he wears.

he lost his eye in battle defending the Queen.. and received those scars along with it...

we both have given up much for her in order to protect those we loved.. and lost much as well.

Years of service Backstory end)

During the first month of the Queen's discovery>

eventually after the months of wandering the outland's dragging us behind.. and the months after the Jabberwocky was slain. Iracebeth discovered a race of odd underlandian's.

these people were made of... vegetables... or fruits.

she claimed leadership over them... and made them her slaves.
she threw me in a bamboo cage and just left me there... at times I'd starve.. and would be affected by the elements. I would freeze a lot.

she chained Stayne into a tall red chair made of vines...

separating us.

she did something I can't bear to think of.. but see it everyday.

in return for his attempt to kill her... she took his sword and shoved it through his heart.. she killed him right in front of me...

His skeleton remains in that very spot.. in my sight.

I remember how in pain he turns to me and stares. I stared back.

we just lost.. the only thing we had left.

each other...

we couldn't be with each other anymore.. we can't touch, or hug.. he's gone forever.

losing him.. killed me.. she took away the last light that I had.

and now I was dark inside. I'm going to have to live with my pain.

unless I die too.

here I reside.. locked away in this cage.

maybe. if that girl Alice.. comes back.. she can bring him back.. and set us free.

Present time, two years later>

the Red Queen tossed a plater of fruit into my cage.

she stood a few inches away from the cage.

and bit off of an apple.

"I've enjoyed watching you starve.. and I shall certainly enjoy watching you die when the time comes.." she humorously assured.

I stare up at her grimly as I nudged my hand toward the plater.

I was weak.. my clothes were torn and I was dirty.

I say nothing.

I turned my gaze at the ground of vegetation.

I closed my eyes.. and a tear rolls down my cheek.
