Isabelle Lightwood sat on the roof of the Hotel Dumort as she watched the stars shine.
As dark as it was, New York was still buzzing with noise and people. She guessed it was really the city that never slept. Neither did she.
"Iz?"
She turned around her head and her raven hair fell gracefully around her shoulders.
Simon stood awkwardly by the ladder.
Isabelle threw him one of her award-winning smiles (seriously, Simon had said so) and stood up elegantly walking over to Simon.
"Yes?"
He smiled nervously and took hold of her hand.
"So...I was thinking we could go to Taki's tonight? Raphael is really getting on my nerves." He complained, rolling his grey-blue eyes.
Isabelle knew that Raphael had a puppy crush on her boyfriend, but she didn't mind. Simon loved her, and only her.
"Sure! Just let me get dressed up and we'll go."
She was about to climb down when Simon grabbed her wrist.
"Um...Izzy. I was going to invite my friend tonight. Clary? I hope you don't mind."
Isabelle tried to contain her irritation. She didn't want to insult Simon, but she did not want to meet this "friend". It wasn't a case of jealously, but hatred. She knew that Clary was a Shadowhunter, and couldn't stand them. Perhaps Isabelle's family was, but she excluded her brother. That was another reason to dislike Shadowhunters, segregating Alec from the Clave's decisons just because he likes men instead of women.
"Um..it's fine," Isabelle lied, "I'll just be out in 20 minutes."
She climbed with ease and hopped onto the exit walkway. She fumed with anger as she threw open the door and stalked to her room.
Maybe she should stop being so selfish. This was his friend, not hers. Nobody was asking her to become soulmates with this girl.
Ha. Could you imagine?

Clary Fairchild stared at her porcelain features in her vanity mirror, checking if any lipstick was on her teeth.
Suddenly her wooden oak door bursted open, a sweaty Alec standing at her door.
"Alec? Hey, what's up?"
Alec ran a hand through his hair and plopped down on her bad.
She frowned and set down her Mac lipstick.
Tiptoeing over to him, she wasn't sure what to expect. That was the thing with her best friend, you couldn't tell if he was upset or just overwhelmed.
She calmed down and stifled a giggle as she noticed a red mark on his neck, just next to his stamina rune.
"Damn. Magnus is wild." She laughed.
He shot up, his face going red.
"W-What? How did you....?" He stuttered
"Your...um...hickey."
Alec blushed seeing the love bite on his white as snow skin.
"Um...what are you all dressed up for?" He gulped, quickly changing the subject.
"Oh!" She realised, "I'm going to dinner with Simon and his girlfriend. Who I don't even know yet."
"Not even her name?"
Clary pondered. Simon had told her once, but she couldn't remember now.
"I don't know...Imogen?"
"And she's a vampire."
"Yep."
Alec looked like he was thinking of someone, but quickly dismissed it.
Someone knocked on her door and she sighed.
"That's him now."
She got up and walked to the door, opening it slightly.
Simon's puppy face peered out at her.
"Hey."
"Hello, Clarissa. Your carriage awaits you."
She laughed and looked back at Alec.
"My ride is here. See you later?"
Alec nods and waves them out.
"So. You ready to meet my girlfriend?" Simon says, as they walk down the Institute's winding hallways.
"Yeah."
Clary knew this vampire girl would be pretty, Simon had said so. She also knew she would be smart, badass and witty. Everything you'd want. But why did she think they would be enemies at first sight.
Hey, maybe it would be love at first sight?
She laughed.
"What is it?" Simon asked.
"Hm? Oh. Nothing."
