It had been two weeks since the night that I had met Alexa. She had eventually opened up to me and we got closer each day and I could feel myself growing fonder of the young girl each day. I'd never had a family of my own since coming to Newtech city and I hadn't been too successful in making friends either.
While I worked Alexa would go out with friends that she had known since she was eight. They were only a few years older than her but I knew that they looked after her. She briefly introduced us. Their names were Jack and Z. At first I was slightly skeptical of the two, but they were polite and Alexa seemed to trust them wholeheartedly.
When she first introduced them I had the strangest feeling that I had seen them before. I shook off the feeling though and went to work. One afternoon I came home from work to eat with Alexa, who was lying on the sofa on her tummy, her chin rested in her hands as she read the science book. She looked up as I shut the door and smiled.
"Hey Serena!" She called. I waved at her and asked about her day, before taking the pasta salad that I'd made that morning out of the fridge. I set it down on the table with two bowls and called Alexa over to the table.
"Help yourself," I motioned to the salad. As we ate we made small talk before Alexa asked,
"Hey Serena, I was going to go out with Jack and Z soon. Is that alright?" I looked at Alexa as she stared innocently back at me.
"Sure." I said with a nod. "Don't be back too late though okay?"
"Okay, thanks Serena!" She called as she pushed her chair away from the table and grabbed before racing out the door. I sat, slightly shocked at how fast she left, before laughing to myself and wandering through to the living room to lie on the couch. I spread my legs out in front of me and leant back, turning the tv onto the news channel. Two faces appeared.
"The Parkington Market thieves go by the names Jack and Z and have been very active recently. Their crimes consist mostly of robbing. In recent weeks, another suspect has been added to the S.P.D's wanted list. Alexa Marks."
As the male voice-over spoke Alexa's name, I froze in shock. I almost didn't register the fact that the reporter said S.P.D. I cringed slightly at the memories of happier times, tainted by the reminder of why I left the academy. It was as though everything had been blurred, but had just come into focus. Alexa was in trouble.

I was running towards the town centre, Parkington Market, when I heard a cry of "Stop thieves!" I immediately ran in the direction that the voice came from.
I ran round a corner to see three S.P.D cadets fighting with Jack, Z and Alexa. I sighed as I watched Alexa fighting one of the guys while Jack fought the other one and Z fought the blonde girl. I watched from the sidelines until the two guys backed Jack and Alexa against a wall. As I was responsible for Alexa, I wasn't going to let her get arrested. She's still a kid.
"Hey!" I called to the two guys, making them turn to face me. "Leave them alone!"
I sighed as I flexed my fingers, feeling the sensation that I'd not experienced in a long while. The tingle started at my fingertips and travelled up my arm as the two guys turned to look at me. One of them had a ridiculous smirk on his face, and I grimaced before raising my hands in front of me.
Just as they started to charge forwards my clenched fists opened up and I sent a blast of ice cold air straight at them. I then aimed a finger at the floor they stood and the puddles from the rain the previous night froze instantly. I let out a small chuckle as they flailed around helplessly trying to get a grip before falling to the hard ground with a thud.
"We need to have a serious talk young lady." I scolded Alexa as Z threw the blond over the railing and jumped over it herself. In the end, all three cadets were groaning on the floor.
"I'm sorry we can't stay and play, but we've gotta run." Jack laughed as we raced away.

Once we were at my flat, I sighed and made the three of them explain after scolding them for involving me in their issues.
"Well see, Me and Z have these powers right?" Jack was explaining, "Which means that I can walk through solid objects," he said, demonstrating by walking through the wall into the bathroom and back again.
"And I can do this," Z told me. Suddenly I felt a tap on my shoulder and I spun around to find Z.
"Wait... but... You're there... You..." I stuttered confusedly spinning around to face the real Z.
"I don't know why you're so surprised. That Ice thing you did back there was pretty awesome!" Jack praised.
"Yeah, Serena how come you never told me about that?" Alexa asked, but quietened after I glared at her.
"And what were you doing?"
"Serena... Come on..." She groaned but I just raised an eyebrow at her. "Fine... What Jack and Z do is amazing. They give to those less fortunate than us and up until a few months ago that was me." Alexa finished slowly. I nodded and looked at her hopeful expression before cracking a smile, letting her know that she was forgiven. Then Jack spoke up,
"Look Serena, thanks so much for saving us back there, but we gotta go."
"I did it for Serena. And I'd appreciate if you left her out of anything illegal in the future." I sighed but squeezed their shoulder comfortingly as they walked out the door.
