Waiting for a table before my date arrives, I twiddle my thumbs. Tonight, I am on a blind date that's been set up by my mother (yeah, I know. My mother.). I feel extreme nervousness. All I can think is:
Do I know her?
Is she a Jesus freak? Nothing wrong with loving Jesus, but I have heathen ways.
Is it one of my College sweethearts?
Is she older or younger?
I hope she does not have any children (Rio love the kids, though).
This is what happens when I leave myself with my thoughts. While waiting, I ingest two capsules of pain medication without any water.
"Your table is ready, Ms. Michaels." The host directs. He brings me to a table as the server introduces herself. I order the Cape Cod and a water with no ice.
"Do you know what the other person would like to order?" She asks.
"I am not sure. May you come back in a couple of minutes? She should be here shortly," I look at my watch.
Becoming nervous due to her lateness, I almost get up to leave, but I notice a woman in burgundy skinny jeans with 6-inch black stiletto heels approaching the table.
"Is... this seat taken?" She asks softly.
I look up and my heart skips a beat due to her beauty. I answer with a stunned face, "Never for you."
She sits down in front of me wearing a black blazer and a white V-neck shirt. Her brown eyes are astonishing along with her natural look (no makeup possibly?). Her hair is big and natural. I just look in awe as she apologizes for her lateness.
"Do you like my hair?"
"I love it." I grin as I feel my face get hot from constant smiling.
"I wanted something new and I feel amazing,"
"You...look amazing," I chuckle silently. "So my mother set me up with you? Of all the women in the world." I continue to chuckle in awe.
"What can I say? Clearly, I'm your type," She smirks.
We begin to catch up. As we reconnect, she says everything has been great. "A lot has changed since we last seen one another. My number...""Your hair." I interrupt.
We laugh, putting her hand in her hair.
Her essence is vibrant. It is sexy. She has a glow. It is new and I love every bit of it.
After ordering a glass of merlot, throughout the night, we have light conversation. Laughing up an appetite, we order entrées and enjoy ourselves until our meals are completely gone. I take a moment to pause after a hearty laugh. "Terry, I am so glad you are doing well, not keeping in touch made me wonder how things were,"
She looks at me after taking a sip of wine. "I had to rebuild and take time for myself. You understand, right?"
I take a sip of my water and share what's on my heart. "Look, I know me and you have been through tough times, but we've made it through regardless how ugly and beautiful things became between and around us. I never got a chance to thank you for aiding me back to health. Thanks to you, I'm active again and got my life back."
Terry takes another sip of wine, "You don't need to thank me, Rio. I love you and that will never change." Terry depart her lips slowly as if she wants to say something else but quickly closes them – only to reopen them to say, "I'm sorry I put you through heartache and abandoning you in the past. I can only imagine the pain I brought into your life and baby, I was scared then. I was scared to death loving you, but when you had that accident, I've realized I'm scared to live without you. Being without you is unbearable and I never want to be without you ever again," She sniffles in between words.
