They watched the happy people walk by, feeling their emotions being ripped out of their grasp. As fur sprouted, a hand reached out and touched their now burgundy fur.
"You might think you're the worst, a monster, whatever, but you're just as misfit-y as the rest of us. Sit down. It's not like we'll let you walk out of here." They felt a cold arm pull them back and kiss them, feeling a scaly face touch lightly to theirs.
"We'll just have to wait. Someday, we'll be safe up there."
The damp sewers felt a little more like home.
