(AN: Hello! Quick note here, thank you so much for 40 reads on this story! I know that some people think of it as insignificant, but it my first book and yea! Also, congratulations to my friend Marin, Kat , or @ThatGirlyBrit for 100 followers! Congrats even though this is probably posted one day after. Anyways back to the story and hope you are having a wonderfully non-purple day! :)
~~~~Preston's POV~~~~
We all gathered in the lobby, grieving in the cold silence of the moment.
"I think we should take a moment of silence," Miranda said.
They all nodded and stared at me, laying on the ground, tears staining my face. "What are you looking at?" I asked, wiping the tears off and standing up.
But Mat knew what I needed. He wrapped his arms around me and started to rub my back in circles. "Preston, it's okay to cry. We're all a bit out of it. Now, let it out."
I could feel his steady heartbeat and lost it. I wrapped my arms around him and let the tears flow But Mat still stayed there, his shirt now becoming less comfortable.
I opened my eyes for a moment and saw I never wanted to see. All of my friends were crying.
Adam had Sam all curled up on his lap, Rob was stroking Miranda's hair, and everyone else was standing and either sobbing and/or comforting someone else.
I pulled out from Mat's hug, as much as it hurt to do so, and decided to be the leader, seeing as the rest of the group now had the emotional stability of a house of cards.
"Guys, we need to get it together! We're all gonna die if we don't do something!" I looked at everyone as they looked at me, with eyes that were completely drained of hope.
"What else were we gonna do anyways," I muttered.
"Ian, Quenton, go check check the closets and such in the downstairs corridor. You are the strongest, now everyone else split up, but have one or more buddy!"
I stayed in the lobby with Mat so that everyone could have a spot to report to. It was awfully cold, so Mat gave me his jacket
"Are you sure dood?" "It's okay, I come from Canada, we're used to this kind of weather." I grinned at his little stereotypical joke.
Hello there.
A voice was in my head. And it was talking to me.
I looked Mat dead in the eye and started to tear up. He looked at me with a warm concern and asked "Are you okay?"
I tried to plaster on a smile and convince myself that I was okay.
I was fine. This was normal like people in my situation. Once I got out of here, everything was going to be okay. I was going to be normal again.
No. I was going criminally insane. I was never going to be normal. At least in this lifetime
Mat waved his hand in my face, but I was still not ready to take on my situation.
"Come on buddy, come back to me..." he said, raising his hand to my face.
"It's okay, and Mat, I'm straight." He looked at me with wide eyes and backed away.
"Look, I know that we're friends and all, but I just think of you as that. A friend." I laughed at his silliness.
I booped his nose until I heard the voice again.
Do you want to know why you're here? Why you're trapped? Why there is no way out?
I swallowed and nodded. Mat looked at me and placed a hand on my shoulder.
"Are you sure you're okay?" His eyes twinkled in the dim light of the chandelier.
Then follow the light.
I obeyed and began to rise as I saw the white light appear in my eyes.
^^^^^^^Mat's POV^^^^^^
Preston began to stand, staring as if he was following something.
"Preston?" I asked, grabbing his shoulder and trying to pull him back. But he just kept walking, not stopping.
"Preston?!" I grabbed both shoulders and tried to pull him back to me, but to no avail.
Then he stopped. Just in the middle of the room. I gave a weak grin and grabbed his hand.
But he shook it off, raising the other one weakly, as if trying to reach for something he would never get.
My grin dropped into a frown, as he just kept his hand raised.
"Preston, you're scaring me!" I got in front of him.
"I must follow it." His voice was monotone and lifeless.
"Follow what?"
"The light." I opened my eyes and wrapped my arms around him.
"No, don't follow the light!" I whisper-shouted, beginning to cry.
"But it is the only way out." I looked straight into his eyes and sniffled.
"No, no it's not! We can make it through this together! Don't do it, for me. Please?"
The glow in his eyes returned and lost his balance, falling to the floor.
"Preston," I whispered, helping him back up to his feet.
"What, what happened?"
I looked him in the eyes. "You tried to go into the light."
He pulled me into a hug and we sat back down on the stairs.
"It wasn't me Mat, it was him."
I stared at him quizzically as he wiped a tear from his face.
"Who is he?" He buried his head in my shoulder.
"It's the voice. It first appeared on the steps and it told me the only was out was to follow the light. I tried, but I could never make it. He just said 'Keep going, keep going' over and over. Mat, I think I'm going insane."
I looked at him dead in the eye and could tell he was serious.
"It's okay I'm here."
(AN: I think I just wrote something a little bit beautiful. Did I? Plz tell me.... And thanks again for 40+ reads in less than 3 days. Wow... I'm a bit shocked. Thank you all you incredibly awesome people of the internet. And all the #Pooch (Preston Nooch) was unintentional. Anyways, my friend Alayna, or @PBBgurl11, is writing a story and it is really good in my opinion, minus one thing. And it's kinda personal, but that's besides the point. Go read it and on chapter 3 type 'Dylan x Matt!!!!' plz. Anyways, rambling over. This is lolgirl, signing off! Peace! :)
