"Once a wolfs destiny is changed, it cannot be changed again, unless the wolf with the wings of destiny comes." -Ember

Shadow and Ember flew over the forest, wings beating, Shadow trying to catch up, and follow Russets scent. They flew through clouds, fog, even a swarm of Swifthawks, swift and fast hawks with stinging talons, without even one of them stinging Shadow and Ember. Shadow looked down and noticed there was a patch of clearing surrounded by thick trees covered in vines, and the white shape of Snow. "Look, Ember!" Shadow howled in delight. "It's Snow!"

Ember looked down and the faint scent of Snow hit her nose. "She really is down there!" Ember angled her wings downwards and plunged into a dive, with Shadow close behind.

Snow was standing in the middle of the clearing, surveying how the camp looked like. Just then, Russet walked out of his den. "Good morning, Snow. Are you ready to begin training?"

"Of course, Russet! I would love to!" She was overwhelmed with excitement.

Russet pointed his muzzle to the wooden figure of a wolf. "Show me what you can do." Snow went into the attack crouch and sprung right at the wooden wolf, leaving three deep scratch marks on its face. "Not bad, Snow." Russet calmly said. "But I can improve your skills a lot better." Snow nodded and narrowed her eyes. "But it is actually very good for a pup." Russet quickly added. "So you need to work on your stealth and agility......" Snow tried to listen, but many different sounds and scents distracted her. Suddenly, she heard a light thunk and some pawsteps. She jerked her head around, and realized it was Shadow and Ember! She growled and went into the attack crouch.

"And so that's the way." Russet concluded. He heard Snow growl, and turned around and saw Shadow and Ember standing there, their eyes narrowed and teeth bared. "So it's you and your little weanling pup again." Russet sneered.

Snow laughed. "As if you guys love me now." Shadow's eyes widened in shock.

"Of course we love you!"

"Well... then prove it!"

"Don't you remember the time you fell into the river and mom and I fished you out?"

"That was just a silly dream, weakling!" Snow snarled, and Shadow's ears went back and her tail was low. Suddenly, Snow leapt into the air, and as the elder sister, she was bigger, and she squashed Shadow. "Oof!" Shadow huffed as her breath was knocked out.

"Don't you dare!" Ember howled. And the next thing Snow knew, she was pinned down to the ground with her belly exposed. She snarled again.

Shadow struggled and stood up, trembling all over, whimpering. She saw Ember pin down Snow, her sharp claws nearly at Snows throat. Suddenly, a blinding flash of light exploded from Snow, and Shadow closed her eyes as tight as she could, but it was still really bright.

Shadow slowly opened her eyes, and she saw that Snow now was bigger and stronger, and was pinning down Ember instead! And Shadow noticed that a paw shaped mark with a star shape on it has appeared on Snows left shoulder.

Ember gasped. "You got your pawmark so early?"

Snow tilted her head in confusion. "What pawmark? If you tell me I'll let you go."

"Ok." Ember sighs, and Snow let her go. Ember stood up and stretched her cramped muscles. "Ah. That feels better." Ember sat down. "Each wolf has their own special pawmark." Ember explained as she licked her fur the other way and revealed a pawmark.

Shadow gasped. "I never knew you had that!"

Let me continue." Ember glared at Shadow. "At the right time, you will get your pawmark, and it foretells your future destiny, like mine. My pawmark shows a flame, because My destiny is to be as fierce as a raging fire and as calm and patient as a small flame. And yours, Snow, has stars on it, which means that you will banish the darkness and bring back the light. A pawmark is decided by the Unknown One, our god, when you are born. I can tell that banishing the darkness was your true destiny, but sadly somebody mixed up your and Shadows destiny. Shadow was supposed to be the evil one."

Shadow gasped, "It can't be!"

"Sadly it is." Ember sighed.

Shadow stood up. "I must do my best and be good."

Ember agreed. "Yes, you must fulfill Snow's true destiny." Shadow nodded and she lifted her tail up confidently.

Suddenly, Shadow found herself pinned down by Snow again. "I shall not let you defeat Russet. He is my protector. He is completely innocent."

"You bet." Shadow growled softly, but before she could say anything else, Snow had her paw on her windpipe, ready to crush it. Shadow narrowed her eyes and extended her claws, swiping away Snows paw. But Snow just extended her own claws and slashed at Shadows eye. Shadow flinched away, closing her eyes, but she still felt warm blood trickle down her eye, and she felt like her eye was on fire. She howled in pain, and giving Snow one last kick, she beat her wings hard and rose into the sky, with Ember close behind and blood dripping to the ground like droplets of rain.

Snow chuckled. "Yeah! We have got rid of Shadow and Ember, Russet!"

"Yes, Snow." Russet nodded. "Now I have taken my revenge, I shall do it more and more! Ok. Let's go back to your training. If you want to be my loyal commander, then you must train harder. First, show me your attack crouch again."

Shadow wearily flew back to the den with Ember, and landed and walked straight to their den to sleep. The wound that Snow gave her still felt extremely painful. Meanwhile, Ember walked over to the prey stack and grabbed a whole faun, and before you can say, "Eat." She gobbled it all up. She padded to the den and slept with Shadows warm body beside her. She reflected on what happened today, and she noticed that Shadows wound was gradually becoming a obvious grey mark that ran from the top of her left eye to the bottom. "It is the symbol of balance." Ember told herself. "That grey mark is very important to her life, but I just don't know what...." Ember sighed as sleep enveloped her.
