Let's get started.
Time for some simple things.
•You do NOT need a space BEFORE a period. You only need a space after, unless that is your sort of thing.
•Capitalize the first letter in every sentence. If there is a number before the first letter in a sentence, you don't have to capitalize it.
•When doing formal writing (ex. A story) refrain from using exclamation points UNLESS it is an author's note or a character is shouting or exclaiming something, or if something exciting is going on. Even then, don't overuse them.
•Contractions have apostrophes.(example: Do not becomes don't. It is not dont.)
•Check your spelling! Please please please look up a word if you don't know how to spell it. A lot of people don't do this and it bugs me.
•There is no need for run-on sentences.
•During a conversation, and/or if a different character talks from the last character talking, it starts a new paragraph. And if the sentence of a talking character ends in a period and there is something after the quote, the quote ends with a comma and not period. Ex:
"John, why did you pet the chat?" Richard questioned.
"Who knows," John replied.
"Why don't you know?" Richard asked.
"I just don't," John stated, "if I knew I would have told you."•Chapters don't have to be massive. Do what you think is good.
•trollfics are jokes, you don't have to follow simple rules.
•Try not to have a flimsy storyline. The longer your story, the harder. Constantly going off topic of the story and adding too many sideline things, or just not really having a problem, can cause this.
•Don't have your story have a resolution in the same chapter. Don't do something like this Ex: two people have a major break up, two paragraphs later, they make up. And don't have the same constant problem, with super quick resolutions every time, unless that IS the problem.
•Don't use Mary/Gary-Sues. In other words, invincible, overpowered, female or male or whatever characters.
•make your story make sense. If you constantly make major things happen and not say anything about it, it just ruins the story for the reader.
Note: I will probably add more.
