Chapter One~ Taken

It all started out like normal. I was helping Miss Linsey put books back onto the shelves of the small town library. The library had always been my favorite places, and it was somewhere I could go to get away. When I turned sixteen-I was eighteen now-Miss Linsey offered me a job, so now I also got paid to come to the library.

As I was putting away the books, I hummed quietly to myself as I let my thoughts swirl in my head. Miss Linsey was my only friend after my parents kicked me out of the house and everyone else left once school was over, but I didn't mind. I wasn't one to socialize much, as I was always embarrassed and unsure around them. Nobody ever really like me much either, usually just hanging out with me out of pity or to get into my pants. Some people would call me adorable, others would say I'm disgusting. I was the small, blonde hair blue-eyed tr*nny gay kid. My hair looked like mud, my eyes were an ugly storm, and my body was that of a middle schooler. I didn't eat much, or work out, and I was shy.

I almost jumped out of my skin when I felt a light tap on my shoulder. Turning around, I almost fainted at the sight. There was a man. A very handsome man. He looked at me with interesting shining in his dark chocolate eyes.

"Hello?" his voice pulled me out of my thoughts, and I lowered my gaze.

"H-how may I-I help y-y-you, s-sir?" I trembled slightly, cursing to myself for stuttering.

"I was wondering where I would so happen to find the Twilight series," he spoke, gazing at me intently.

"T-they are over-" I was cut off by the man.

"I want you to show me, boy," he demanded.

Out of fear my eyes widened and I dropped the book I had been holding. I quietly walked over to the shelf that held the books he asked for, but when I turned around, the man was gone. Confused, I just shook my head and returned to my job of putting away books.

Once I had reshelved all the books, I returned the cart to the front desk. It was only around six, so I went to find Miss Linsey to see what else I could do. Usually I would work until nine or ten, even though the library closed at eight most nights.

"Miss Linsey?" I called softly as I wandered around the library.

"Oh, Ry!" I heard her voice before seeing her appear from the office. "I have this for you. Someone dropped it off a little while ago for you!"

She handed me a small package wrapped in brown paper. It made me curious as to who dropped this off. I made my confusion clear to her, and she just shrugged her shoulders at me. There was something that made me worried about the small package, but I couldn't place what it was.

"Is there anything you would like for me to do, Miss Linsey?" I asked after a few minutes, remembering why I came to find her.

"Not until closing, like usually Ry! Go take a break and read until it is time to close down the library!" she responded, smiling. She was always like that, so happy and smiley. I almost envied her for that.

Taking her word, I went off to my private little corner and sat down in the window sill. For a while, all I could do was stare at the package. The neatly wrapped paper hid something, and I wanted to know what it was while also leaving it so neatly wrapped. I hated surprises, and this small package was not helping that.
