The pages of the book were so soft. So smooth. I ran my fingers across the pages as I flipped them one by one. Occasionally, I smiled as I read between the lines. Remembering the phases of my entire life. Some good . Some bad while others were not worthwhile remembering. At long last I sighed as I looked back at him.

"September the third......." I said
quietly. He raised his eyebrow.

"What about it? "

"That's where it all began. September the third, year 2007......"

5 years earlier......

I shut my eyes tightly as I heard the humongous iron gates shut behind me. I opened my eyes slowly as and observed my new surrounding. My new home. I held my duffel bag as I walked towards the building that was before me. The building gave me the creeps. The walls were grey and the roof was in grey also. Basically everything was in grey and it made a cold shiver run down my spine. The only sound I could hear were my boots as went through the gravel. I could hear the clouds rumble from a distance. I carefully went up the steps and stood before a gigantic door. It slowly opened and I was startled because I hadn't even knocked. Who am I kidding, am pretty sure they saw me enter through their gates. As I entered I found a lady probably in her late twenties sitting behind a rusty old table. She had glasses on and didn't even spare me a glance.

"If I were you I would turn back now," she said as she continued to write whatever it was that she was writing.
I narrowed my eyes at her confused.

"And why would I do that? "I asked cautiously.

She sighed as she took off her glasses and I noticed her piercings. She had one near her left eye, one on her nose and one at the corner of her lips. She actually looked pretty cool with them. She took a pretty good look at me from head to toe. Literally.

"One...."she said as she pointed her perfectly painted nails at me, "you took your pretty time walking as if you owned this place and two, you're late and believe me if you want to survive this then one thing you should know is that tardiness and laziness of any kind is not tolerated here, you understand? "

I looked at her and didn't even have the words to answer me. My mouth was just wide open as my brain cells tried to register what she had just said. She leaned forward on the rusty table and looked at me straight in the eyes.

"What did I just say about laziness ? "
I blinked severally. She stood up and walked towards me. I stood there like a statue. My legs rooted on the tiled floor.

"Are your lip muscles aching or something coz I just asked you a question and you didn't answer, "

"I - uh - I......."

"You -uh - you what?  Speak.  Now!"
Her voice boomed the whole room.

"W-what was the - um - the question again? " I asked carefully coz it seemed that I was already in her bad books. She slapped her forehead lightly as she shut her eyes tightly.

"You've got to be shitting me, "she mumbled to herself as she rubbed her temples.

"Listen and listen carefully... I know you think that am a bitch, " Halleluyah! She made my work easier. At least I won't have to tell her.

"But let me tell you something pretty face, once you enter those mahogany doors behind you, you'll meet people worse than me. I am actually one of the nicest people around here and believe me when I say that our kind is very hard to find around here. So to save your sorry ass, when you're asked a question you better answer. Got that? "

I nodded quickly.

"I said, got that? " she pressed.

"Y-yes. I got it, "  I answered quickly getting the memo. She sighed as she went back behind the table as she mumbled something about me not going to survive a day.
