She couldn't wait to walk into her house. The house she shared with him. She had been away for 3 weeks, doing promotional work for her upcoming album and she had missed him so much. Home is where the heart is and her heart definitely belonged to the beautiful hybrid that her Russian/New Yorker husband was. The car drove through the hills and she could already feel his arms wrapped around her tightly, his fingers going up to her face and his eyes staring deeply into hers like they always did. Her whole body shivered at the mere thought.
It had always been like this, even when they weren't together. Her favorite times had always been when they had been alone together, which for many years was a rarity. Her parents always seemed to keep their eyes on them. They had known from the very beginning that something beautiful was bound to happen between them. For the longest time it had been clear as day to everyone except them. She thought back to one time where she had almost told him how she felt.

"You look deep in thought. Care to share?"
Val turned around and was greeted by the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. She was wearing a metallic dress that had a V-neck and a slit that reached up her thigh. He swallowed the knot that was forming in his throat and put on a tense smile.
"Zendaya, you're here?" He cocked an eyebrow, distinctly remembering that she had told him of a prior engagement. "I thought you were too busy for mere mortals like myself?"
It was a joke, she knew, but the hint of bitterness that she detected in his voice tore at her heart. She didn't know if she should be sincere or keep up with the playful banter that they had formed throughout the years. She chose the latter.
"Well, sometimes you have to come down and play with the little people. You know, the ones who got me where I am." Her heart went a little faster at the sight of the genuine smile that grazed his lips.
"Finally, I haven't seen that smile in a long time."
"There hasn't really been a lot to smile over." His demeanor shifted again and she realized that the glow that always made his eyes shine brighter than any others was nowhere to be seen. How long has it been like this?
"Talk to me" she said with her soft voice, her heels clinking against the floor as she walked towards him.
He tensed as she came closer, his mind hoping that she wouldn't lay her hand on his shoulder because he knew he wouldn't be able to resist the touch of her skin. As she raised her hand to do exactly what he was afraid of, he moved away telling her that he had to go check on the troupe. "I'm dancing with them tonight, as are the other guys but I always give them a bit of a pep talk before each show. I'll be quick."
Her hand stung as did her eyes. She felt like they had been growing apart even though she saw him all the time. Except maybe she didn't. She thought back to when she first remembered him being so aloof. It had been last August, the day after ... The day after ... The thought shook her. They had met up and spent an entire day together. She knew from the first minute that things were different for her. Her breath caught in her throat as he wrapped his arms around her and when he kissed her cheek she could only think of how his lips would feel on hers. His embrace felt different. Before they had always had a bit of a problem fitting together, with her being gangly and sharp. It never really felt right although it always felt good. But his arms wrapped around her now felt like home. She felt like they were so compatible that she could melt into him. His scent stung her nose and made her feel lightheaded so she clung onto him even more.
A small chuckle escaped his mouth and he pressed a kiss against her hair, something he always did and something else that now felt different to her. They let go of each other, his right hand travelling down to her left one and taking it in his own. It had been months since they had seen each other yet it felt like they were seeing each other for the first time.
