"Staring at the ceiling in the dark, same old empty feeling in your heart, cause love comes slow and it goes so fast..." Rain drizzled down the frost covered windows. Fields and hills passed in a blur as we carried on driving for what seemed like hours. My headphones were plugged into my iPhone playing the songs from my 'Sad times' playlist.
My brother sat in the front seat drumming his fingers on the steering wheel, eyes fixated on the road ahead. He was the oldest of my 7 brothers, yeah I know big family. Well that was because our parents both has a rough time growing up. They both had different ideas on dealing with this to make sure it didn't happen to us however. Dad only wanted one child to save the heartbreak of someone you loved leaving. Whereas mum wanted loads of us so when something happened to them or one of us they would be there. You can guess who won right?
I happened to be the youngest out of us all, not to mention the only girl. I always felt so out of place, not by the way they treated me cause they were always there but in the image. All of my brothers inherited my fathers auburn hair, and I was given my mothers light ash blonde hair that was dead straight, that ended just above the bottom of my ribcage. Every single member of my family has brown with specks of gold that made them twinkle and stand out and I owned icy, hard blue ones that could pierce through your skin encased by thick black eyelashes. My lips were plump and pink, this factor I enhanced with a light coat of lipgloss. I has porcelain skin that showcased my every floor whereas the rest of my family had a rich honey color coating them, and I was tiny compared to my brother tall, broad frames.
I jumped back into reality when I heard my eldest brother Nathan calling me. I pulled out my headphones just a he cut the engine. Nathan was 27, 11 years older than me, he moved out of the house at the age of 19 to go to college. When he graduated my parents bought him a house. Oh yeah, did I forget to mention they were loaded? Well my dad reluctantly inherited my Pops' buisnesses.
I looked around seeing a forest lining a driveway traveling towards a marble fountain that was delicately engraved, each and every detail was perfect. Stone gravel lay on the floor around the amazing art sculpture. Cars sat waiting obediently to assist their owners, they weren't cheap either, brands such as Audi, BMW, Jaguar and Land rovers were parked. The last thing that came into view was a house, or should I say mansion, only a tiny bit smaller than my parents estate. I stared in awe at the magnificent architecture, so modern yet vintage at the same time.
This was just confusing me so I asked the one question clouding my mind, "What are we doing here?"
My brother chuckled softly before replying "Welcome home, baby sis!"
I couldn't help but gasp. I fiddled with my seatbelt trying to unclip it as quickly as possible before swinging the door open and racing towards the boot. I grabbed my suitcase. I span around at the sound of a horn beeping from the end of the long driveway.
Strolling down the path, engine humming, came a red beat up, pick up truck, and in the front sat 3 of my brothers, Xavier, Aries and Ciaran. they would also be living with Nate.
When they pulled up they bounded out of the seats. Xavier ran up to us and picked me up, twirling me around in a hug. Even though I saw him only 4 days ago I still missed him. I was really close to all of my brothers but this boy was my rock.
After our greeting had finished the oak door to the mansion in front of opened to reveal 3 boys who looked identical to the 4 stood next to me. Zachary, Mason and Ryan. I hadn't seen them for a few years that's for sure.
We all walked into the house together after everyone had finished greeting each other. It was coming up to new year, which meant a new school year. We talked about the arrangements a few days ago, before we left. Me, Ciaran and Xavier would be juniors, and Aries would be a senior with the twins Zach an Ryan, and Mason would just go back to college after vacation. Xav is only a junior because he got held back a year, but I'm kind of glad because there is a bigger chance I will be in the same classes as my brothers.
When we got into the house we went and sat down in the lounge catching up and laughing like we used to. Halfway through I excused myself to go and make everyone a mug of hot cocoa.
I made my way into the kitchen, not without getting lost down a few hallways first that is. Rooting around in what felt like a hundred different cupboards I finally found the chocolaty mix. I boiled the kettle and waited scrolling through my Facebook newsfeed. A few things caught my eye but apart from that nothing at home had changed. The kettle whistled, I filled the mugs, mixed them, tout them on a tray and took them ini the other room.
Finishing my hot cocoa I tried to stifle a yawn but obviously didn't succeed because Ryan noticed. He chuckled softly, "Come on then little one, somebody obviously needs to get some beauty sleep before they turn into an ugly witch and no boy ever wants you." All of my brothers looked over and laughed whilst I tried to stop myself from pouting. Ryan left the room, motioning me to follow him. Sighing I pushed myself up off of the slippery leather couch and said my goodnights before slipping out of the door after my horrible brother.
Ryan was already at the bottom of the white marble staircase. He whistled before saying, "What are you? A tortoise? Hurry up slow coach!" I rolled my eyes before retorting immaturely, "Slow and steady wins the race." Not leaving out the ending my famous sticking my tongue out. What? Don't judge me. I am the youngest. Following him anyway, rushing to catch up he lead me to the second floor, rolling my suitcases behind him, my other bags in his arms, as he trudged a short way down a long wide corridor. Opening a door and holding it open for me to step over the threshold.
Once inside he dumped my bags down, said goodnight and left me alone to look around my new room.
Lying in the middle of the room was a queen sized bed. The frame was vintage! with flowers and birds engraved in the woodwork, painted in a plain white over coat. The colours of the sheets were white and hot pink matching the colour scheme the rest of the room held. An ensuing attached to the side of the room, there was also a walk in wardrobe next to it. There was a large dresser to do my hair and makeup in next to an easel, to do my art course work and instruments such as drums, acoustic guitar and a keyboard. Even with all of this stud there was still loads of space. All in all the room was perfect but what made it my dream bedroom was the large balcony outside the patio doors.
Slowly walking over to the glass sheets I steeped out into the crisp night air. The view was breathtaking, looking out over the garden, forest and hills surrounding me I took it all in, and at the end of the garden it joined onto the beach, the waves glittered in the moonlight.
Sighing I walked back inside flopping down on the bed thinking about my parents and home. A single tear slid down my cheek leaving a mascara trail, and even though I wanted them to no more would spill. My eye lids began to grow heavy and I let them shut, snuggling down in my duvet, drifting of into a restless sleep.
