Bethany's POV
I woke up covered in sweat. I was dreaming about her. Why was I dreaming about her? I tried to push her out of my head so I could get ready. School was In half an hour so I didn't have time to plan my outfit. I threw on a cute crop top and jeans and headed to school as fast as could.
I was in such a rush I barely heard the whispers and rumors floating around the school halls. I sat down at my desk for registration. I heard someone mention Lexi's name and instantly tuned in.
"Did you hear about what happened to Lexi Smith?"
"I heard she got hit by a bus."
"My brother said her pimp probably beat her up because you know she's a whore" They all laughed at that. I tried to control my anger. I couldn't act like I cared or more rumours would be started.  Besides the school queen can't show interest in the schools scum bag, I never thought of her like that but I guess that's what she is to these people. It makes me sick that they think I'm one of them, like I'm some sort of snob looking down on people. I used to be, until I was about six. I saw a homeless man on the streets, I went over to give him the money in my purse when my mum ran over and pulled me away saying "People like that are the scum of the earth Bethany, we do not associate ourselves with them. Do you understand me?" Of course I didn't and I never have.
"What ever happened to her, she clearly got it bad, she looks worse then Rocky in them old boxing movies my dad watches." That was it, I ran out of the class and searched the halls for any sign of Lexi. That's when it hit me, all the bad downtown kids hangout behind the old building. I headed that way and surely enough there she was sitting by herself smoking something that clearly wasn't legal accompanied by a beer bottle in her hands. She looked bad. Not only was her face black and blue, but her piercing green eyes no longer had that sparkle in them. Her eyes looked dead, similar to eyes you would see on a serial killer. Only this was Lexi, not some serial killer. I jumped when she looked up at me, noticing my presence at last.

Lexi's POV
When I arrive at school everyone's staring at me, I tried to hide the bruising and cuts as well as I could but nothing was working. It wasn't until this morning that I noticed how badly I got hurt when knocked off my bike. What do I care anyway, it's not the first or the last time this school will see me covered in cuts and bruises. I go to sit behind the old building to smoke and drink some of the burning pains away. That's when I see her...Bethany standing there with an expression of such deep concern on her face. She looks so beautiful today, it's clear she put no effort into her appearance but somehow she still manages to look drop dead gorgeous.
"Lexi I-I-I." Seeing her at a loss for words reminds me of what I must look like.
"It's worse then it looks. Fell of my bike no biggie. Stop looking at me like that it's freaking me out."
"That doesn't look like a biking accident."
"And this doesn't look like any of your business."  Shit. Why do I have to be such a bitch. And why doesn't she believe me?
"I'm sorry, you're right. It's just, for some reason I care about you." She cares about me? She doesn't even know me.
"Well don't." I say bitterly.
"Is it okay If I sit." She moves a little closer, something about the shy way she moves makes me want to say yes. So I do.
"Yes."
"What really happened?" She asks. Gosh the one time I'm telling the truth and no one believes me. Typical.
"I generally fell of my bike. Well I was pushed but same difference." I don't even know why I'm explaining myself. "Are you okay?" Why is she being so nice to me? Girls from uptown never talk to us kids from downtown.
"It's all fine."
"I know you can handle yourself, but if you do ever need anything let me know." She grabs my hand, just her touch makes me loose my mind.
"Lexi Smith what are you doing back here...Bethany Rose? Is that you?"
Shit it's Mr Marin. He's one of the worst teachers at this school. He never leaves me alone. I can feel my heart start racing, it always happens when he's around me ever since what he did last year, after he... I can't even bring my self to think about it.
"Yes it's me sir, I was just grabbing the work I missed from Lexi here."
"Get to class now Miss Rose, as for you Lexi wait here I need to speak to you."
"Yes sir." She gets up to leave.
When's she's out of sight he moves closer to me.
"Lexi darling what happened?" As if he would care. I hate when he calls me darling but in some ways  he's been good to me. He makes sure I don't get kicked out of school, for a price. Not that I like what I have to do I don't but I can't get kicked out.
"You look tense. I know a way to make you relax." He slides his hand over my bare thigh moving closer to my sensitive areas. No way am I sticking around for this crap today. Before I think about what I'm doing I take Bethany's hand and run as fast as I can.
"RUN BETHANY RUN!" I scream at her.
"LEXI! GET BACK HERE NOW."
"NOT TODAY SIR." I shout over my shoulder, I hear Bethany giggle to the side of me innocently. If only she knew.
