1- Rue
"C'mon Rue! Get up!" I heard my older sister, Casey, shout into my ear. I growl at her and stuff my face into my pillow.
"Five more minutes."
"You said that five minutes ago! We're gonna be late!" She argued. I pull the covers over my head to block her out. Jeez, didn't she know the meaning of beauty sleep?
Casey huffed and stomped out of my room. I sighed and relaxed my body as darkness lured me in wi-
"Ahhhh!!!!!!" I scream as I feel ice cold water being dumped onto my head. I shoot up and move the drenched white-blonde hair from my face.
I looked down at myself. I was drenched in ice and water to the bone. For real, was the ice necessary?
I glare up at Casey who backed away slowly. "I'm soooo gonna kill you." I growl, low and threatening as I slowly get up from my soaked bed.
She darts out of my room like a bullet as I begin chasing her around. Remind me never to run with wet socks on.
One minute I'm sprinting at warp speed towards Casey, then the next I'm crashing into the giant cabinet that held my mother's new china collection. I managed to save her prized vase before curling up into a ball to avoid the crashing dishes.
"Ooooooo." Casey drawls with giant green eyes as she looks at the broken glass around me. My eyes widen with panic.
"Mom is gonna kill us!"
Casey shook her head and pointed to me. "She's gonna kill you! That was all you!" My mouth hung open as she tried to tell me that it was my fault. My body began to get hot and I was about to burst when Elliot, Casey's mate and our beta's son, came downstairs.
He looked at the mess then at the two of us. "Your mother is going to kill you."
Casey pointed the finger at me. "It was Rue! All her!"
Elliot fixed me with a look of pity. I didn't want pity nor did I need it. I took calm deep breaths as I spoke, trying to put out the raging fire building up in my body.
"It was not! It's your fault!"
Casey thrust both her fingers at me. "You're the one that crashed into the cabinet!"
"Only because I was chasing you!"
"No. I wasn't the one wearing wet socks!"
"They're only wet because you drenched me in water!"
"Only cause you wouldn't get up!"
"Then you shoulda let me sleep!"
"Mom would kill you if you were late to school again!"
"Mom'll kill me anyway, thanks to you!"
"Me?! It was your fault! How many times do I have to say it before it gets through your thick, metal skull?!"
I snarled and lunged for Casey. Well, more like Violet did. My purple eyes were wild with rage at the insult. But, as my luck would go, Elliot caught me by the throat.
Violet growled viciously at him, snapping her canines in his face. I only sighed and let it happen. I couldn't control her, I knew that from the many hours a day I spent trying.
He glared as he looked into my wolf's eyes. "Violet. Calm down. Give Rue back control."
But she hissed at him instead. "I don't think so." She sneered. "Come here, Casey. Let's see how hard your head is while I'm slamming it into the ground!"
Elliot snarled and the grip on my neck tightened. Casey laid her hand on her mate's shoulder. She looked at Violet with pity. I growled. Again with this pity look, I don't want it!
"It's not her, Elli. Calm down, Rue wouldn't hurt me."
My wolf laughed harshly. "You sure about that, Case?" Casey looked away for a fraction of a second.
My eyes widen, then begin to tear up. Did my sister really believe that even for a second, I would harm her? Is that the monster I've been degraded to?
I started to cry. I was always the soft, lovable one. Violet was the half of me that wanted to kill anyone who touched us. Now she was making my own sister afraid of me.
Violet went to say something but stopped when she heard my sniffles in the back of our mind. "Rue?" She asked softly.
"Just stop, V. I don't want Casey to be scared of me! I get that you want to protect us, but this isn't the way. You're just making more enemies." I sobbed.
She seemed taken back and lowered her head in shame. "I'm sorry, Rue." She whispers before giving me control.
I feel suffocated as soon as I come to. Air wasn't getting into my lungs and I felt drowsy. I heard someone gasp.
"Elli! It's her! Let go!"
I was dropped roughly as air rushed back into my lungs. I sucked in a deep breath and coughed violently. Black spots clouded my vision and my neck felt like it was throbbing.
"Rue? Rue, are you okay?" Casey asked, helping me to my feet. Tears welled up in my eyes as I looked up at my big sister.
I wrap my arms around her neck and cry into her shoulder. "I'm sorry Casey! I didn't mean too! I really didn't!"
She smiled warmly and her arms went to my torso. Her hand ran through my wet curls as she traced circles on my back. "It's okay. I know. It's okay. Shh, Shh."
I sobbed harder. She didn't believe it was okay. She never would. I couldn't forget the way she looked away when Violet questioned her word. She actually thought I would hurt her.
She's afraid of me. Of my wolf. Of her little sister who would do anything to make her smile. I didn't want her to cower every time I was around.
Or wince whenever I went to touch her.
I wanted to be the younger sister she could joke with without having to worry about being suffocated in her sleep. I didn't want my family to fear me and or their mates to want to protect them from me. More tears sprang to the surface as I reached what could only be known as the truth.
I'm a monster.
