7- Code Red

"Gnaarfllblleh"

There's something dead in my mouth and it smells like booty and hotwings. Oh wait... I huffed into my hand and quickly recoiled. That's my breath.

I groaned and rolled over, successfully face planting on the cold wooden floor. Perfect.

I rolled out of the silken sheets and got up. Fuck, it's freezing. After I got that weird eye crush out, I looked around.

Hmm. I'm in a giant barbie pink room. That was the first thing I noticed. I was alone. That was the second thing I noticed.

Good. I dropped to my knees and cried out. "WHY IS THERE SO MUCH FUCKING PINK?! IT'S BURNING MEH EYES!!! THE AGONY!!! And scene."

After that was over, I dusted myself off and skipped over to the even brighter pink door.  I'm so serious right now, my eyes are friggen roasting. The door was locked, cue the overreacted gasp.

I threw a hot pink vanity at the giant window that was my right wall. Yeah, that bounced back.

Another overreacted gasp!

Okay then, here goes nothing. I pulled a bobby pin from my hair and walked back over to the door. After a bit of tweaking here and some there, I was able to unlock the door.

I blew a kiss to the sky. Thank you Google! The hallway was sunny as fuck and made me want to crawl back under the sheets. But the house smelled heavenly of Gabriel so this was probably his house.

First, I was gonna make some breakfast cause I was super hungry, then I was gonna escape.

I skipped down the long peach colored hallways until I came to a giant two way staircase. I slid down the railing because I'm such a little kid, before lilly gagging into a magnificent kitchen.

If this is what being rogue is all about, sign me up!

The refrigerator was packed with everything I could ever want!

"Why don't you let me cook? You'll burn the house down." Without waiting for an answer, Violet took control and put water in a pot and put it on the stove. "Now what?"

"Oh my gosh. You're gonna burn water." I forced her into my mind and put the pot away. I got out  eggs, bacon, pancake mix, strawberries, bread, and cinnamon and began my masterpiece.

💯💯💯

An hour and 37 minutes later, I had a grand feast. Baked eggs, bacon, strawberry pancakes, cinnamon French toast, and a fruitsalad just waiting for me to devour it. Gosh, the aroma was driving me mad with hunger.

Just as I was about to dig in, someone decided to cough up a dick- I mean clear their throats.

I looked up ever so slowly to find my wonderful mate, who suffocated me until I passed out then locked me in a room, standing at the doorway with his arms crossed and eyes as stormy as ever.

I put a bite of pancake in my mouth, complete heaven, and chewed slowly.

"Sup."

He walked around me, standing in front of the table where I sat and glared. "How did you get out."

I took another bite and swallowed. I stared cutting off a part of my eggs. "You know, I think the real question is how did I get in. Any idea?"

He growled low in his throat and I took a sip of my coffee. "Don't play games with me, Rue."

I shivered as my name rolled off his tongue. "I mean, I got the high score in Subway Surfers but I'll let you pass me if it bothers you so much." I don't know where the sass is coming from but I like it.

I picked up my plate and mug just as Gabriel slammed his fist hard against the table. I glared at him.

"Be careful, Wreck-It-Ralph! You could have spilled my coffee." I took a slow sip, completely confident that I was pissing him off.

Honestly, I didn't care. I was letting off steam from the 3 days he'd locked me up. I was going on for another bite of bacon when his meaty fist wrapped around my throat.

Violet crawled just beneath the surface and this time, I didn't try to push her back. "Get your fucking hands off of her." She growled, baring her canines at him.

I only sat back and watched. This would be interesting.

Gabriel's eyes widened before they shifted into a gorgeous golden color. He quickly let go of us and bowed his head.

"I'm sorry on behalf of my ignorant human." Gabriel's wolf, I presume, apologized. Violet only snarled before giving me back the reins.

I chuckled slightly, making him look up. "Uh, hi. I guess you're Gabriel's wolf."

"My name is Red. It's a pleasure to finally meet you, mate." He pulled me into a hug and dug his face into my neck.

I sighed in content at the feeling of his body against mine, his arms wrapped around me.

"I'm Rue. My wolf's name is Violet. She's a bit anti-social." I said, breathing in his scent.

Why couldn't Gabriel be more like his wolf? I scoffed at myself. Wonder how many mates have said the same thing.

Red let me go and took a step back. "Gabriel is trying to take back control. I don't like the fact that he's keeping you here by force. So," He paused, eyes glossing over. I stared deep into his eyes and he looked away.

Was he...

"So I'm going to give you 5 minutes to run. That's as long as I can hold him. Your territory is 3 hours West of here." Red looked pained as he said this and I couldn't believe my ears.

I shook my head. "What? What about you?"

His eyes flickered green then back to gold. "I'll be fine. I'm him. What can he do to me?"

Red pulled me close one last time and kissed my forehead before pushing me towards the main entrance. "Go, Rue."

I could see how heartbroken he looked, but he was giving me a chance and I would be stupid not to take it.

Before I could stop myself, I ran back to him. I wrapped my arms around his neck and pressed my lips against his. It was even more magical than the stories told. I loved how his lips melted into mine, how Red nibbled on my lower lip. How his body vibrated against mine.

Absolutely magical.

And then I remembered something. If I went home, they would know I found my mate. They'd know because I'll go into heat in about a month. They would track him, probably get slaughtered, and then the end.

Shit. Shit. Shit.

I pulled back to look at Red one last time. "I'm sorry Red." I stepped out of his arms, standing straighter. He looked at me confused.

"I, Rue Moone, reject you, Gabriel Cross, as my mate."

Red stumbled back, we're those tears in his eyes. I automatically felt bad, horrible actually. My stomach twisted up and I felt like throwing up.

"I-I accept your rejection." Red muttered. He managed to give a small smile. "It's for the best. Now go." His eyes were flicking back and forth.

I nodded, tears in my eyes. "Thank you Red." Without waiting for his reply, I shifted and ran.

I ran, out the door, through the territory, through the pain, and home.

I cried out as I felt myself passing into my border. I actually cried when my pack house came into view.

I was really home.

"My mate is my home." Violet muttered sadly, hiding in the shadows of my mind.

The mate I just rejected.
