Chapter 1

"Travis, no," I groan.

"Travis, yes," The blue haired boy said, holding the two test tubes with his eyes glowing under fogged science-goggles.

"You know what's gonna happen."

"No, I don't."

"Don't lie. You did a whole fucking essay on the elements of liquids in the Blagden."

"So?"

"You got a A+."

"Hmmmmmmmm- Yeah, not convincing, Crow." His lips had curled into a Cheshire Cat's.

I facepalm, knowing it was futile and thought, How did I become this guy's partner?

The shadow of a figure rises up the wall. It pauses to look around before continuing its journey across the hallway. Many doors past- tall ones, small ones, white ones, wood ones, spiked ones, wide ones- but the figure continues until it stops at one door. An alive one.

The second the figure stopped, the door immediately revealed its long sharp teeth. But they remained at ease, reaching forward with a steady gloved hand holding a twisted piece of metal. Immediately, the door stopped growling and panted, whining like a dog begging for a treat. The hooded figure tossed it at the door and it swung open, chomping down the metal. They quickly went inside and navigated themselves across the table filled room.

Finally, they halted in front of a desk and started to open the compartment.

"Hold it."

The figure whirled around and flinched in surprise to see someone at the door.

The lights switched on, making the interrupters' smirk visible. It was Travis Stein. "After my project, I see."

They snort from under the hood and straighten. "Why would I?"

"Oh, I don't know.... Maybe because SOMEONE who's been second place since they've came here wants to move up for a change." Travis lifts his chin up, light shining into his goggles so his eyes were slight visible from the fogged lenses.

The intruder didn't respond for a good minutes until they finally sighed and tugged off their hood. "Fine. Ya' got me. Happy?" Crowley's dark eyes glared at Travis.

But Travis just smirked wider. "I'll make a deal with you."

"Oh?" Blackmail.

"I won't tell anyone you tried to cheat in the science contest IF," Travis paused for dramatic effect.

Crowley wasn't amused. "If?"

"If you be my chemistry partner," he said.

There was a long stunned silence. "Wait, what?"

Travis tipped his head, grinning. "Hee~."

"Yeah, no. Do you have any idea how much I dislike you?"

He flinched and frowned, looking extremely offended and hurt. "Whaaaaaaaaa? What's not to like?"

One of Crowley's brows quirked. "You kidding me? How would you like it if someone was always better than you, no matter how hard you fucking try?"

"Hmmmmmmm," Travis put a hand under his chin, "you know, maybe I would know how it feels...... but no one's ever been better than me. So."

"I'm not gonna be your bloody partner," Crowley said through a clenched jaw.

But Travis just smiled. "Alrighty." His eyes gleamed wickedly. "Guess you want your rank to disappear. As well as your being here."

Crowley flinched and snapped, "Fine. I'll be your damn Chemistry partner."

Travis grinned in success. "Great."

I rubbed my temples. Right.... That's how.

Travis was this close to pouring the liquid in before I lashed my hand out, grabbing his wrist. There is a soft bzzt sound and he yelped, letting go of the test tube. I caught it just in time and see everyone staring at us so I snort, "Be thankful. I saved all your asses from being scorched."

They murmur stuff amongst themselves as they turn back to their work. I huff through my nose and put the tube into the holder. Travis is rubbing his wrist and pouting at me. "You know I don't do well with surprises."

"Exactly why I did it."

"And you took advantage of that? You're so cruel, Crow."

A short laugh escapes my lips. "Ya' got that right. Maybe you should listen to me more, Travis."

"Hmm, I should but-"

"'I don't want to,'" I finish and grinned a little.

Under the googles, I could tell his eyes were wide with surprise. "Looks like a few weeks being my partner made you psychic!"

I roll my eyes. "Or maybe being your partner made me learn a bit more about you. I'm sure if I were to be ranked on my knowledge of my Chem-partner, I'd get first."

He threw his head back with a loud 'HA!'. "I don't think soooooo."

"Oh?"

"There's a few things you don't know about me," Travis said, putting his fingers under his chin.

"Really?" I inhale. "Your name is Travis Bluefield Stein. Age 16. Birthday is November 23rd. Number 1 ranked in Science-"

"That's just simple stuff."

I hold my hand up to silence him and continue. "Straight A student but has broken the limit of trips to the Tower of Threadbare as well as Xenon slips yet somehow is still in this school. Dorm number is #34. Currently has no roommate. Has 6 siblings. 5 sisters, one other brother. The third eldest. Left handed. Likes the color blue. Persian blue, specifically. Has a obsession with mixing up chemicals and exploding his dorm room. Afraid of-"

Travis quickly covers my mouth, muffling the rest. "Okay, okay, okay, I get it. You know me."

I snort through my nose and try to speak, "Pan clu plev les go?"

"Huh? Oh, yeah."

When he lets go, I wipe my mouth and a screech echoes through the school, signalling the end of class. "You know what I don't know? What your next class is."

"My next class? Oh, after Chemistry, I skip."

I nearly knock down the test tubes. "Haaa?"

"Yea. See you tomorrow!" And he bolts out of the classroom.

"What? Wait!" I grab my bag and dash to the door but when I look down the hallway, Travis had disappeared. What's this guy hiding....?
