(1 year later)
I had the dream again last night, the one where I found him on the floor of the bathroom dead. It’s sad that even a year later I can’t seem to get that day out of my head. As I lay in bed wondering the possibilities that could have went down that morning. I could have saved him. I could have gotten there sooner but instead I had to be stupid. It’s all my fault. Life was nothing without Tyler. It meant nothing. The only bright side of my life at this moment was Owen. He was my everything. I honestly didn’t know where I’d be without him to comfort me. He made me whole and he was the only reason I got up every morning.
Speaking of, I had school today. Fuuuuuccckkkk. Getting up to get dressed for the day I looked in the mirror. These jogging pants and this white tee really weren’t doing it for me. I looked ratchet (bad if you didn’t already know). I had to do something with my appearance. Gotta look good for my man. I reached in to the closet and pulled out a pair of denim skinny jeans and a floral tank. I settled with some studded flats that showed the badass in me. Come on I had to. My hair was an absolute mess but all I had to do to fix that was brush it. It looked good with my waves falling down to my shoulders. I could dig that. Before I left I had to look in the mirror.
Rushing down the stairs I heard my mom let out a big sigh. Oh god what was wrong now? Glancing her way before I got myself into something deeper I saw her stationed at the table with her shoulders hunched into something important.
“Is everything okay mom?” I said as I approached her taking a seat across from her at the kitchen table.
“Yeah every things just great Hun. Did you sleep well?”
“Yeah, really good actually.” I lied.
“That’s good.” She sighed again.
Looking over to the papers she was holding I got curious. “What are those?”
“What-Oh nothing just a few bills leftover from the rehab center we enrolled your brother in.” We both went silent at the mention of Tyler. We really hadn’t spoke of that day since it happened.
She tried to diffuse the situation by changing the subject quickly. “Oh my goodness I completely forgot about breakfast. Are you hungry Hun?”
“Oh no it’s all good mom I’ll just get something with Owen on the way to school.” I said getting up from the chair.
“Nonsense. Sit your butt down and I’ll make some chocolate chip pancakes real quick. I’ll make some for Owen too.” Well can’t argue with that. Speaking of where is Owen? As soon as I thought it she read my mind…Creepy. “Oh and by the way he called. He said that he texted you but knowing you he knew you wouldn’t look at it right away. He said he’d be here in a little bit he’s just running late is all.” Oh. Okay.
I sat there enjoying the aroma of the pancakes. The smell alone was intoxicating. I remember when I was younger that every Saturday morning we’d spend the day making endless amounts of pancakes, blueberry, chocolate, etc. You name it. Then at the end we’d pig out. Closing my eyes just for a while I sat there content with myself. Maybe this day wasn’t going to be as bad as I thought.
When I opened them I saw the most beautiful sight known to man. Owen. He was standing in the doorway smirking. He looked dashing as ever, his clothes probably costing as much as my house. “Enjoying yourself there?” I asked cockily.
